Firearms restrictions being proposed in Alberta.

Noel, sounds like you got it in for your neighbors. Why not live and let live. A guy going after an elk can't be a bad thing, can it? I do not see a problem Noel. Try being nice to your neighbors. Give them access. Might be a good thing for all.

Really? When they won't let me hunt their land, when they shoot deer for other people? Darn right I have it in for them. Try and set a good example and don't get permission from your neighbors cuz some dork shot their cow or horse. I've never done that but I get painted with the same brush.

Good and fine to go after an elk but they need to get permission for access to private land. It's the law and just plain courtesy. As to going around hunting when ever where ever they please, yeah I don't think so.

I am more than happy to take folks to my favorite hunting spots and do so every year. Go figure we find more gut piles and drag marks than anything else.

If you look at all of Toomany's comments in these threads, you will note he is trying simply to get a rise out of people....I do believe you have taken his bait...

Don't waste your time with TMG's Noel!

Funny thing, when I mentioned some of the farmers and ranchers being part of the problem, the one area I spoke of is up in the same vicinity that your folks live. You know where and who I speak of and I know most of your stories from around home

Yes, I believe I have mentioned it a couple of times in my posts. Increased enforcement...

What are your suggestions?

Well we do agree on something! I would love to see plain clothes wardens driving non-traditional LEO vehicles on the roads all season. That would show me something positive and proactive being done with my licence fees.

And I should have mentioned it earlier but I'm the first generation in my family tree (both sides) that isn't a farmer. Either are my 4 brothers and sister. I don't have it in for farmers/land owners but I know way too many that cry poor all the time at the lake after they get their 35 foot 5th wheel leveled and the boat in the water.

I was going to buy TMG's Lapua mag for sale until now.:p

It would work really well for long range deer and elk. You can shoot across properties! lol

I have found it easier to get permission to hunt from the indian bands and hutterite colonies than most farmers.

Sounds like a case of "love thy neighbor". You look like you have taken the higher road. Some people just don't respect the land of others.

I never did enjoy hunting in and around the Alberta farmlands.

I have been particularly sickened by anecdotal reports of farm owners poisoning grizzly bears and horse ranchers slaughtering elk herds because they come in to eat hay and standing grass.

I heard of one lady who wanted to hire somebody to kill all the elk on her ranch one year.

All anecdotal reports.

Gents, if you have not already done so, you need to e-mail the CSSA, and NFA and ask them to get involved with this as soon as possible. We need their help to stop this proposal from the Alberta Beef Producers before it has a chance to become law. Below are links to their e-mail...

CSSA (Canadian Shooting Sports Association).

info@cdnshootingsports.org

NFA (National Firearms Association).

info@nfa.ca

And keep the heat on the ABP!

Deep thoughts by Jack Handy...

Jack Handy saw a dandy,
his rifle it was handy.
He shot that big buck
From the road at his truck.
The beef farmer gawked, as Jack's rifle was cocked.
He blasted the deer and guzzled a beer.

That bloody road hunter Jack just shot MY deer. We need a law preventing this.

Just got back from my local butcher. Told him he won't be seeing us anymore, and he already knows why from other customers. He's PISSED OFF! I hate to be the guy from ABP who answers the phone when he calls them on Monday morning....

I like the way you get after something, sets a great example.
I never heard back from my MLA, not that I expected to I bet she doesn't know where to start. Best to go right to the one up north.

Sorry, I just found this and don't have the time to wade through the sea of posts in this thread, so...

If someone has a .pdf or text of any of the ABP letters posted above in photo form, could you please pass it along by either posting here or sending me a PM.

Not knowing enough about how laws are formed, could someone please itemize who I should write to - my guess would be my Local MP, AB Premier, and someone at the ABP... right? If so does anyone have contact info for the ABP?

As for my thoughts on the topic - I have seen plenty of "road hunting" but I have never seen a safety issue result from it. I wish people could legaly hunt from roadways because it might minimize the amount of property damage from trucks leaving tracks all over the place in hunting season. This change would also be a big step back in coyote control. I say all of this from firsthand knowledge; I live in rural Alberta, and while I have never had an interest in farming myself, my family does raise cattle.

Also, maybe someone should pass this along to some media outlets like say the Rutherford show.
