This is included in a list of recommendations to the Alberta SRD for regulation change in 2011. Skating on thin ice?

"Proposal that all firearms and ammunition be in separate lock cases while in a vehicle on all maintained roads."

I'm not from Alberta, but I suspect there is already a law against having a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle. If so, then what in tarnation is this proposal for? If the purpose is to increase the amount of time it takes to get your gun out of the case and load it, then why doesn't the moron propose a law that says, 'Shooter must wait 2 minutes from the time the vehicle is stopped before firing'. It saves us from having to buy another set of cases and locks, and still achieves the same end result. Proposals like that are made by knuckle-dragging, pot-bellied bureaucrats trying to think of ways to make it look like they are doing something to justify their massive salaries and rich retirement benefits. I would be much happier if we loaded up all those leaches on the public dole and put them in a room full of video games to amuse themselves, and told them leave normal people alone.

You guys better nip this one in the bud like RIGHT NOW. Get the Alberta Wildlife Assoc involved, write letters, get the word out to politicians that this is a BAD THING

I'm e-mailing my MLA right bloody now! This is total BS! Damn Stelmach, he couldn't manage a lemonade stand profitably with free lemons and sugar. Now he's going after us legal gun owners too? I'm fed up with him and that party of his. Go Wildrose Alliance!

Chuck, do you have a source for the info? Can you provide us with more info? I doubt it is the government guys pushing this, beef producers... wouldn't surprise me.

As far as I know it is the Beef Producers who proposed it. I don't have a PDF copy of the bunch of proposed changes for 2011, but I am working on that.
