First .22 hand gun for me and the wife to share suggestions

I have small hands, and I love the feel of the Beretta Neos- your wife may too.

However, I have and love my Ruger Mark 1 bull barrel.

Ruger Mark II or III (target for this last one), I got the Target (bull barrell) and the Target Hunter (stainless), one is with a hogue grip with finger grooves, both are fun to shoot and my 13 years daughter love it.

Got offered 2 for $300 today. Neither are that appealing but ill go have a look just the same.
Norinco 201c 9mm
Norinco 126? .22. I cant find a 126 listed but from the description it might be a m93 woodsman.

I've bought my Ruger Mark III Target brand new for $434 + tx, ...., if you want a .22, I would stay on the most two reliable and are two top .22 to buy : Browning Buckmark & Ruger Mark III, both are realy affortable..,

My local shop has a 422 .....

u might want to give the tanfoglio force 22 a try.........

Oddly enough I happen to have BOTH of these guns. And an all stainless "barely non-prohib" 4.5" 2206.

The S&W pair are my primary "Go To" models for my shooting. And the Force 22 was/is a nice practice gun since the grip shape mimics many of the double stack 9mm. Which isn't a surprise since Tanfoglio markets the 9mm polymer "Force 99" model using the same frame.

However while both the mostly alloy 422 and plastic and alloy Force 22 are light they both have a pretty large reach around the grips. I would be happy to be proven wrong but if your wife fits the "baby Browning" I doubt she'll fit either of these other guns all that well.

YOU, on the other hand, would likely quite enjoy a 422 or 2206 if one should come by at a decent price. The nice thing is that magazines are not that hard to come by since these guns use the same magazines as the Model 41.

The Force 22 is a bit of an issue. They shoot fine and all but because it's a modification to what is basically a 9mm pistol there's a couple of issues. First off is that the magazine is too fat and the feeler finger for the slide stop does not reach in and lift up so the slide does not lock back on the last shot. Not a big deal though since the firing pin is controlled so no damage is caused to the edge of the chamber. But less easy to accept is that the magazines do not have the common side button on the follower like so many other rimfire pistol magazines. So you need to load the mags similarly to center fire mags. But with the small size and slippery handling of the rimfire rounds this is a bit fussy. So magazine loading isn't all that fast.

And while most normal owners won't run into this higher round count owners will find that the plastic lips on the magazines will wear out and the whole mag needs to be replaced.

Oh, and did I miss the fact that the Force 22 isn't cheap to buy? In retrospect I wish I had paid a little more and gotten a CZ Kadet. Or simply got a cheaper gun.

I have experience with gsg 1911, m&p 22 and ruger 22/45. The m&p and ruger is by far the better gun. Gsg feels somewhat cheap in the hand. So if money is not an issue i would go for either m&p or 22/45.

And i find gsg is little bit choosey with ammo where the ruger and m&p eats everything..

Outside the box, but are you fixed on this style? I recently faced the same dilemma (small wife wanting a light gun), and even though I'm a semi-auto kind of guy, the lightest and best-fitting thing I was able to find for her was the Ruger Bearcat. Unlike other 22 revolvers that weigh 2.5 pounds, this thing is only 1.5.

Originally I thought revolvers were lame/tacky, but this thing is a lot of fun. It also fits her great, and the quality is top-notch.

We played at our local gun store today ( limited selection) and no way in hell is she going with a revolver.
Also a no to gsg 1911 and Ruger mk II.
She fits the Browning 1911-22 best but its "not nice looking"
She is still in love the s&w m&p22. Never took her for the tactical look...

So now how does the Ruger SR22 stack up to the m&p? Is the grip smaller? Etc.

How does the grip profile/size compare on the 22/45 to the m&p?

GSG 1911 - best value and best warranty
Browning Buckmark Contour URX / Ruger Mk III - reliability and accuracy and affordable as brand new
S & W 41 - near match quality and affordable if you can find a good used one
Ruger 22/45 - somewhat resembles a 1911 controls, reliable and accurate too, cheaper than Buckmark Contour and Ruger Mk III

I would tell anyone to stay away from the M&P!, warranty on this gun is NON existent, i sent mine in 13 months ago and no word on when i will ever get it. Murray Charlton doesnt know and S&W gives you nothing but the run around. I would NEVER buy one of these ever again. Bought a GSG and had parts in my hand within a week, and free of charge!

I have said yes to a Ruger 22/45 lite on another site but with no contact from the seller in 24 hrs. If that turns out to be a dead end my local shop has a used MKIII for $290 that i might jump on.

Surprised no one has mentioned the ISSC M22TGT. Very well made firearm and the target version is very accurate and with the right ammo performs flawlessly. I love mine.

Two votes here for the S&W Model 41 - only, buy one with a couple of magazines. The pistol is VERY expensive - I've seen them used here for $850 - but awesome trigger and a very long sight radius (which is rare in a .22) and if you don't put them all in the X-ring, it's your fault.

The other one I'd recommend is the Browning Buckmark camper, bull-barrel in stainless steel. "SWMBO" bought one and has since relegated her Model 41 to me. Awwwwww... ;)

If she wants a M&P22 get her a M&P22. I have one and love it.

It's not just the M&P22. It's because we live in Canada and it's really hard to get anything repaired under warranty if it has to go back to the US. I have a different handgun sent to Murray Charleton for warranty, in another 11 days mine will have been at S&W for 12 months. I called S&W last week and still no idea on when it will be coming back. Calling Murray Charleton is a waste of time, they never call you back with any info. I guessing another year before I see it again.
