First nations man claims charter right to trade eagle parts

Claiming that your heritage gives you a right to poach is not ok with me. Just like whites, blacks and all the other colors there are scumbags everywhere.

I want the Charter to protect my right to pursue the traditional activities of my ancestors, such as acquiring land by force from technologically less advanced societies. It's my heritage.

Hound,

No it doesn't. By the way, what ever happened to common decency and live and let live? By this I mean each and every one of us.

Am I just showing my old age, again?

Let's nip it in the bud. Show examples of the other side of the coin so to speak. I'll give the benefit of the doubt, IF, I see examples. If there's more to it than meets the eye, let it be known but it has to be more than a claim to 'aboriginal rights'.

So if I was to go out and shoot whatever animal that I want to,however many that I want to, and then sell the parts, you would have no complaints at all?

Aboriginal rights are inextricably founded upon responsibilities. There are no rights that are exempt from responsibilities including conservation and protection. No person who willfully kills an Eagle is exercising Aboriginal rights. In my community someone who used an excuse like that would be charged and punished AFTER the Elders kicked his butt.

No exemptions.

Now, what about sport hunters who sell Polar bear skins or bear parts, is that just good business?

Stubble,

I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, you'll have to help me understand the connection with your question.

If I understand you correctly, no, it would be illegal and immoral for someone who respected life and loved wild places to shoot wild animals and sell parts of them. So I think you and I would not do that.

Steeleco is correct , I am Aboriginal and we teach the young to honour the great bird and the only way one gets and Eagle Feather is to earn it ,and it is an honor to have and mostly used in talking circles , The creator would certainly frown upon any man taking the life of one of his messenger's , And if he is Native and is killing the sacred bird
then he is a disgrace to the Native people and their culture, he would be what we call and apple Indian red on the outside white on the inside cause he clearly lost his way and is doing it for personal gain (money) .hope he rots in hell.

So what if I just shot whatever game that I pleased, whenever I pleased, and as many as I pleased, but did not sell any parts? What if I made sure that all edible parts were eaten?

Would you still believe in "live and let live?"Would that still apply to"each and every one of us?"

I see............so it's the fault of the white race, yet again?

Convict him, fine him, imprision him, it won't matter, he'll never pay the penalty he deserves. This type will be shooting eagles again first chance he gets. I don't have a simple remedy for this, and neither does the judge.

Think of how much it will cost taxpayers by the time it is through the Supreme Court.
Then he likly will go back to shooting eagles.
Now look, all you First Nation people who have been contributing on here. I did not lump you as being guilty, or anything else.
I am critical of the man poaching eagles and the easy treatment he will get in the courts.

I think first nations should have the same rights everyone else living here has.

If I have to work hard for my money, everyone else should. Hate seeing how fishing/hunting is for myself, yet First Nations have a big pass for the most part.

Going to high school a lot of the first nations students got paid to be at school, spent money on getting cheap smokes and sold them to other students.

At least the few first nation friends I do have said no to getting their status cards.

As for this eagle killer hope he gets a good fine and they should cut some fingers off for killing those damn eagles. :)

There is good and bad people in every race you can't despute that and if you go back and read the story there were 15 people charged thus far one claims to be a Native whats that make the other 14 ?????
