Fn fal

Israeli FALs were made in Belgium -metric pattern, Aussie, Brit and Canadian FALs (inch pattern) were made in their respective countries as were the Teutonic guns.

Maybe originally, but Israeli FALs were made in Israel as well, very distinct in their own right. Two versions of the FAL , Metric and inch, some parts interchange, some don't, a science in it's own right. The German guns were made in Belgian, but they got cold feet about arming their former enemies, hence the G3.

I'm too young to have been into guns before FAL's were prohibited but I did buy a previously neutered one to keep my FN49 company

Lots of good ideas came together in those two Belgian beauties. Personally, I like the cocked hammer indicator on the FN49. I can't think of another rifle that has this feature.

If you want to carry the collecting theme to other guns, investigate other semi autos which use the tilting bolt mechanism. Get 'em now while the supply is good and the paperwork easiest. The SVT40 inspired the AG42B, and the French MAS 44, 49 and 49/56. Although I wouldn't give the Russians all the credit for the bolt principle, they got it in service earliest.

I was just Cabela's yesterday during a weekend US shopping trip. They had a DSA SA58 right beside a PTR 91 behind the glass in the gun library, and on the open rack was a Saiga AK47.
Sometimes living in Canada just sucks.

Mine is a Belgian civilian paratrooper 50.63 . Cost me $1500 new and is now worth $4500 (usd) if I want to export it back . http://www.fourseasonsguns.com/images/falparasar48.jpg

Since you have taunted us with your steel handguards, short barrel, side mounted sling swivel and jaunty side folding stock, would you care to indulge us with a shot or two of the bolt carrier and spring arrangement? I never quite understood how all that spring mechanism gets packed into the receiver cover.

I have a few of various models. A nice, near new Belgian FAL CA, 2 Ishapores, 2 British (I think. I'm not at home), a couple Israeli CA's. I think the government ought to pass a law right now banning the use or public showing of fancy sports cars, restored hot cars, etc., as they have been responsible for a way more trouble in Canada than the FN. Good to blame the object, right?

I will NEVER forgive our government for the stupid, expensive, useless gun laws we have to deal with. I love my country and will never leave it. I just don't trust bureaucrats and government. Can't help that feeling. Been screwed too many times.

I paid $500.00 for my Ishapore semi back in the early nineties. It was restricted then if I remember correctly.

Nice collection....but a little depressing to know that these rifles will end eventually with a sad fate....
