For those Crow hunters among us.

godheadx those are the same as I bought. The feathered variety are neat. A little disporportionate tho. I was wondering if some decoy paint would help with the glare but I have had sucess without it so meh $2 decoys shall stay $2 decoys :)

Funny how you guys are bagging a ton of these per day and in Manitoba they are illegal to hunt. Really does not make snese!

Anyone know if Ravens are legal to shoot in MU3? (Cache Creek BC) We dumped a Mulie carcass in a ravine behind our camp while out hunting a week ago, and their squabbling was driving me bug####. I would have liked to try my Turk Mauser out on a few of them, but I wasn't sure if it was legal?

At the dollar store? Awesome! Anyone want to post a pic, I'm curious & might end up driving to all the dollar stores looking for them...

Cheers
Jay
Twenty four bucks later here is a cool dozen.....the ones with the feathers look ok but are barely larger than a grackle.

Yes I bought these crow decoys about 4 yesars ago from the dollar store when they first started bringing them out for Hallowen. They work great for the price of them. They will crack easy when the weather gets really cold.We have been hunting a cut down sunflower feild where they have been coming to feed from Strathroy area.Shot around 20 the first time i hunted it and 14 the next Saturday.Chatham at one time was where all the crows would head for winter,Now Strathroy and Woodstock seems to be good wintering ground for crows the past number of years.

You are limited to 5 ravens on private land only in BC.

Was just about to start a new thread but found this one so I figured il bump it!

I've always been curious about crow hunting and I've heard many stories about guys doing it. I didnt know anything about having decoys and all but now I really want to give it a shot. Im just wondering when can I hunt them in Ontario? Im assuming its the same time as small game? And is there a limit to how many of them I can bring down per day?

There is no closed season on them in Ontario and no limits. As lpng as your small game license is valid you are good to go.

My Fox Pro brings crows in like It was an Alfred Hitchcock movie ... im not exagerating, F**kn coolest thing ive ever seen hunting... Wish it would do that for book bucks !

I used to go after them many moons ago. An owl decoy on top of a tall pole worked great. Lay a few crow decoys on the ground to look like the owl decoy killed them. That always got them angry. An electronic caller was a must near flyways. When the caller started up, they veered out of their flight path to come over and fight.
Stay crouched in cover until you "see the whites of their eyes".

Sounds like a good time! I've been looking for a decent electronic call but no luck.. I have and old cassette tape with about 40 minutes worth of "Distress Crow's", will that suffice or do I really need a call?

Thanks!

Yeah I've shot a few in trees and some that were flying over, but I have never called them and got a bunch and thats what I am looking into trying. Would be some good practice before Duck and Geese season opens..

I put out an owl decoy and keep throwing the dead crows in front of it. I usually kill over a 1000 a year. Last year I made only 492 kills. It just didn't stay cold enough long enough. Find a flyway and don't over shoot it. Don't hunt on quiet windless days. The coyotes and hawks clean them all up. Then I shoot the coyotes

How do you set up the Owl decoy?

Don't laugh until you try it and I have a foxpro but a cheap hand call with a few decoys and three black garbage bags set up with some papers hanging out of them is the best I have ever seen especially after they are on to you and the caller.
Give it a try
