Forget the GSG-5......Take a look at what one guy did!!

Found this the other day, a nicely dressed 10/22:

Anyone figured out an AK conversion yet? I'd volunteer but my project plate has overrun both its time and funding constraints... and I don't own a 10/22!

First problem I forsee is that the AK ejector opening is above the line of the barrel, while the 10/22 is in line, or very close to it.

What was the story on that tommy gun conversion too by the way?

Krinker plinker not good enough for you?

Nope. I've found a few "metal" airsoft kits in the states that promise to be less cr@ppy than the rest.

My question is though, worth less than $100, and being intended for aesthetic use, do they still qualify as firearms parts leaving the states, and replica parts entering canada? Anyone?

yes. customs sieze as a prohib item.

So as it turns out my son had a metal MP5 kit so being a good father I confiscated it and promptly compared it to a 10/22 reciever(only compared mind you as I believe this change would make a prohib rifle in this particular case). I don't believe it'd work. The MP5 frame is just to small to accept the Ruger reciever. The 10/22 magazine is to big to fit in an 9mm magwell and finally the ejection port wouldn't line up. Too bad really.

I took a couple pics to illustrate...

Does the serial number have to be clearly seen? Lots of hand gun grips cover it, like the wrap around grips for browning hi-powers with the serial number on the front strap.

I think in the firearms laws some where it says some thing about your not suppose to cover or modify the serial number in anyway. Just think of it this way, if some one were to require you to show the serial number right now could you produce it? I could easily remove a handgun grip cover in seconds to reveal a serial number but if the serial number were covered by a stock that took 15 minutes to dismantle and I did'nt have tools to dismantle it I think that might be a problem, especially if my rifle looked anything but a 10/22.

Sell me one of those premade Thompson recievers, and I can build the wood!

I would buy just the reciever in a heartbeat, but I dont know about the availability of them.
