Found a gunsmith that does Non-restricted ACR Barrels!!

I emailed Mr. Herron Arms last night, still haven't heard back. It would be nice if they could update their website to show more info. I really want to get mine done! :)

MrSchultz,

Herron Arms' number should be on the site. Your best bet is to contact Ian directly and talk to him by phone. He doesn't really check his email that much -the last time I got an email from him it was like 3 o clock in the morning his time. He asked me not to post his number in case of spam, but you should be able to find it pretty easily. Good luck!

Well I now have my ACR back from Ian and it is sweet. I am very happy with the final product and cant wait to take it out for some testing this weekend.
Pictures below, camera on phone does not do the color justice.

In my case I went from 16" to 12" so mine is still restricted but in the case of 16" to 18" NR barrel he will do the Verification and Reclassification for you.

Its a 12"

After the ACR becomes non-restricted (and this goes for any other rifle), does the record of the restricted status get deleted from the system? or do they somehow still keep all that info? I was always curious about that.

I wondered about that as well.

What I would want to see happening is the Restricted ACR go from, say The Shooting Edge or another CGN paying dealer, directly to Ian @ Hera Amrs, him to install the NR barrel, do the verification and reclassification and then ship it back to me as a NR ACR. In other words, I don't want it to be registered to me in the process.

Not sure if this could be done with a private owner of a restricted ACR however.

When you convert a restricted to non-restricted, they delete ALL of the information regarding that firearm, even internal emails containing the serial number or other identifying characteristics. I just went through the whole process with another firearm.

Good to know. Unfortunately for me, I'm in Qc, so I still have to deal with this bs for now.

Which other rifle did you end up converting? How was the process overall? Pm if you prefer to share to details. Curious to know how straight forward or not it is to convert (which brings me to wonder, can all restricted rifles be converted to non-restricted as long as they meet the legal requirements of it or are some we can't do?).

Tks

PM Sent. I'll go over some points here for the benefit of others as well. Once your new firearm is in it's non-restricted state, you still need to treat it as a restricted until the paperwork is completed.

All that is involved is a verifiers report must be submitted to reclassify and essentially remove the firearm from the system. A qualified verifier must complete this report and it is available on the CFC website.

The woman that handles this stuff is a lady named Valerie Marsh. Do not waste your time trying to explain the situation to those people at the call centre in Miramichi. They are useless at best. You need to talk directly to the registry in Ottawa, specifically Mrs. Marsh.

Once the form is completed and faxed in with all the information about the new specs, it takes them a week or two to complete the request. I just called back a few times and eventually it was complete. After that, I called the call centre to verify that the particular firearm was in fact removed from their system and, more importantly, my license.

In the case of Herron Arms making you a new barrel, Ian is a verifier and can fill out the form for you. This, needless to say, makes the whole thing much more convenient.
