Frankenrifles...

Bill, the Krag 275 Rigby was one of the finest Frankenrifles I had the pleasure of being involved in. Not only does it feed like all the Krags do, but it is amazingly accurate. Landon's only regret is that his dad never got to see the rifle.

Thanks again,
Ted

Now that would be a dandy walking around rifle.... Would it not ?
The Krag are a favourite rifle, almost smooth like no other.

Buddy gave me a 280 based on a Brno Mauser 98 action, new barrel, Pacific Research composite stock, Sako trigger, jeweled bolt and custom hinged floor plate. No photos yet.

The Krag is all well and good but it never worked my up like the Ross. I've got it in my head that I should have a 280 Ross sporter. No damned idea why. Maybe to go shoot lions off horseback.

Nice rifle !

Here's my current and most Frankenstein rifle. M78 Sportsman action which was Rem's cheap M700 rifle before the SPS series. BBl is stainless factory SPS. Stock is a Brown Precision that came off a 358Norma that I owned and sold to a friend. He sold the stock back to me. Scope is a current FXII 4x. Weight as shown is 7lb. I was going to refinish the stock but found some yellow paint under the top coat black and decided to leave it as-is. Kind of a rat gun theme ala rat rod. It's actually a nice little pkg as shown.

I always like this rifle when you post it SuperCub. Something about it.... reliable workhorse looking.

Thanks ..... I rather like that rifle as well.

It is currently at the blacksmith getting a new SS Lilja bbl in 35Whelen, but no bodywork will be done to the stock other than a 1/2" extension to bring the LOP up to 13.5". I picked up a beater/gloss Vari-X III 2.5-8 in the States for $140US. I will put that into good olde weaver rings and bases for the added ugly effect. The fellow doing the bbl has a bit (lot) of OCD so I know it's killing him to see that go out the door in ugly mode. :)

My latest Frankenrifle is another 308 Norma Magnum.

Weatherby Vanguard action, SAKO 30-06 barrel complete with factory tangent-adjustable rear sight, and modified front sight. The sight was welded up and then filed down to zero 180 gr loads at 25 yards by the smith who installed the barrel. Works out quite nicely to 200 yards.

The stock is a McMillan that I got quite a few years ago from one of the veterans on here. All put together with sensible application of epoxy bedding. Looks not too bad.

Frankenrifles should be ugly and monsterous.

Ruger PCC started as traditional stock, added the Midwest Industries aluminum chassis, and then a adjustable/removable stock from another Ruger PCC M-lok version. The Ruger M-lok stock comb height is too high for the irons or a low mount RDS like I have on it. No need for the heavier M-lok forearm, I just want enough pic rail for a light. It's ugly, but perfect for my wants.

I'm assuming the cartridge stamping went better this time around on that poor old barrel?

All things worked together for good. :)

The butchered barrel is now two inches shorter. Parted the chamber end off, enough to remove all the tenon threads and most of the extra special chambering job that had been done.

New chamber took care of all the extras in there. Turned down the barrel over the chamber reinforce just barely enough to get rid of the caliber stamping garbage. Cold blue made it all presentable.

Now a handy outfit, and still launches 180s well over 3000 fps! Amazing what a skilled smith can do with such stuff.

That Howa is a pretty nice frankenrifle WhyNot?

Are the sights on those sako barrels soldered on? Do they have a ring around the barrel for a base?
