Fraud/Theft Nightforce Scopes

All of us spend a ton of money to process CC's and the systems they make us use are there to protect from fraud... or at least it should. If the CC companies are going to continually dump on the retailer whenever there is a fraud event, what incentive does the retailer have to pay and then risk getting screwed????

Aren't the massive fees we pay in part to cover ourselves of a loss?

I am very interested to learn how this resolves itself.

Jerry
No we pay the huge fees because 80% of customers want to pay with cards. We have considered offering a discount for EMT equal to the fee, around 2%

The credit card system is designed so that all risk and fees are moved to the merchant. The cardholders are enticed to use their card for the various reasons listed above, which the merchants pay for. The system is very well set up by the card companies because no one can leave. Just look at the fight WalMart had with Visa

EMT is always an option but many customers want to use their credit cards for the air miles and delayed pay back option. We are trying to be as fair as possible to the vast number of honest customers and not penalize them for the crimes of a few. Phil.

THIS is the problem we ALL face. How to deal with this pandemic of fraud that the banks have systematically forced businesses to deal with by their promotion of a cashless society.
Phil I feel your pain we have been screwed for just under $15000.00 in the last 30 days. ALL Quebec and Ontario orders, ALL high end optics and ALL the official position of police and the banks is too bad so sad.
We got hit for Razor HD scopes, Golden Eagle scopes and high value gun cases.

Here I was told as the frauds were perpetrated in other placed I would have to file the police report in Ontario and Quebec, which is down right handy.
Ontario took a report and the officer actually did follow up, to no avail. The Quebec police opted to ONLY speak French initially then the English speaking dud told me I had to file the report here. CPS told me I was wasting my time even filling out a report as they would not look into it anyway.

Consequently we have made major changes to how we now deal with credit card purchases made by phone, email or on our website.

Timely thread. We just got a charge back from NOVEMBER for $870. Looks like it was delivered to an empty house in Mississauga

Never seems to stop, always Laval. We lost a few Swaro's that way.

Doesn't help that most of the credit card gateways that offer better protection to merchants will not work with companies that distribute firearms.

Sorry to hear the bad news, a hit like that is big for a family business. I feel MC dropped the ball on this. I have used Visa for years and their computers are set to flag "unusual" activity, i.e.:$ amount, location, frequency and have called me to verify transaction. One call was for $1000 in mens clothing..that amounts to about 5 years of what I usually spend. It was a mail order and was stopped on the spot.

I will be looking for new optics soon, will keep and eye out for them serial numbers.
Probably had buyers already but won't hurt to look :)

Is there a database of stolen goods maintained by companies like NightForce?

Sort of like the database of outboard motors manufacturers maintain? IIRC when I was looking for outboard parts, they wanted my serial number before they would deal.

Cheers
Jay

It would be great if the shipping companies had a recall parcel option for merchants. It would give a little leeway if a transaction was found to be fraudulent but before it was delivered.
