Yup, suspicious indeed.

Am I missing something or shouldn't this be easy for the police to goto the address the scopes were sent and sort the issue out.

Am I missing something or could you not just give the shipping address to the police and have them goto the address and sort #### out?

I'm more than happy to help try and engage the suspicious person in Quebec selling the scopes on eBay. Face to face meeting to check the scopes out, record the serial numbers and vehicle licence plates, video tape the interaction etc..

Thieves are such ####ing cowards.

Trust me that has been done, we have reported this to Edmonton Police Service and Laval PD but have yet to hear back. I have been advised not to expect much effort on the Quebec end...time will tell. Phil.

WOW! Just had a look, it's still listed. Very suspicious & if I was a betting man...

Phil, I hope you recover this stolen property!

Cheers
Jay

I checked his feedback, looks like this might be his first actual listing for the sale of an item. He appears to have only left feedback for others as a buyer, and looks like he's made several purchases from sellers dealing in parts of some type. Likely motorcycle parts based on the usernames of some of the sellers.

It would seem unlikely to me that this guy would make 182 Ebay purchases over 11+ years at 100% feedback, then suddenly pull off an $8000 fraud and then start flogging stolen property via his account. Not saying it isn't possible, just not a strong likelihood- just doesn't fit the established pattern.

If this is one of Phil's scopes, I doubt the seller is the person directly responsible for the fraud/theft and may not even realize what's taken place.

Unless I missed something, this guy is selling a C545.................. the stolen scopes were a C554 and a C555.

Wow a lot of quebec haters around here, i shouldn't have purchased my vortex razor gen ll from Grouse River, i exposed them to my province of corruption and deceipt.

By the way, my worst EE deal gone bad was from a s***head from hamilton ontario, but still love you guys south of the border I won't put you all in the same boat.

I see Laval come up often in these scams, there is definitely a corrupt circle of purchase and resell in that area

Well its hard to blame people.
I live in Quebec about 40 minutes from Ottawa. I have been here over 16 years. I just visited my local store at 10.30 am to get some bacon and bread for my sons second breakfast. There was a grown man about 24 years old in his Canabis PJs. There is something wrong with this picture.

I see you fly the flag in your avatar. You should watch "Quebec My country Mon Pays". There are a lot of really good people in Quebec but there are a lot that don't even seem to like themselves.

That's the danger is of Internet sleuthing. You want it to be true so badly....

Sorry Phil. I will keep my eyes peeled here in Kingston.

Unfortunately this happens everyday. The card companies charge it back on the merchant. Everyone thinks the credit card companies eat the costs of fraud, when in reality it is the merchant. Sad but true. If it credit card company had to eat it, you bet they would have created a better system by now.
As for the police, they don't give a rats ass. There is so much fraud happening they simply don't have the resources to do anything.

Advice for dealers / merchants - especially family / small business shops (I develop e-commerce systems for a living):
- Use a good merchant service provider that offers extensive fraud analysis of EVERY transaction.
- Ask your merchant service provider how you can protect yourself against fraudulent orders.
- Avoid processing cards using a terminal. They usually offer very little in terms of fraud analysis.
- Make sure you understand chargebacks and how to handle them for your specific merchant services provider.
- On orders over $(insert your comfort level dollar amount here), make it your policy to speak with the customer and ask they send a photo of the card being used / photo ID. An "honest" customer won't mind.
- Call the credit card company and ask them to verify the customer information for the card used. They will whine and complain, but will usually help out.
- On big purchases, do your own investigations prior to shipping the item. Can you find the customer on-line on social media? Does it look like they live at the address listed? Are their interests in-line with what they are buying?
- Last but not least, don't be afraid to loose the sale and cancel the order if it just doesn't feel right.

Good luck Phil with your fight on this one. Hopefully they catch them and you get your product back.

Wow, some team of investigators this bunch would make. Not even the correct model number f:P:

And there's that. Not Phil's scope.

Or someone could be swapping boxes around. Never underestimate the stupidity or ingenuity of thieves I've learned.

Practically the same scope goes up for sale days after one is conned and sent to an address less than 30 minutes away? Serial number is covered over?

I wouldn't take buddy off the suspect list just yet.
