Frustrated with Gun Club Experience

<SNIP> I'm amazed hear all these stupid rules you guys have to deal with in other places.... one loaded round at a time? seriously?

Ya, the Mission rifle range is 'controlled' by BR & F-class crowd. Having more than one round in your mag is a safety issue in their minds.

They obviously aren't aware that other types of rifles exist in this world (either that, or it's all about THEM and no one else), such as magazine fed repeating rifles:) Maybe they can try getting into the 20th century first, and then we can work them into the 21st century:)

Chilliwack Fish and Game

The Chilliwack Fish and Game is a great club, The one round at a time is not existent there, load em up and go for it. Holster use is permitted, a holster course is required.
They shoot IDPA every wednesday and host matches.
Archery, Trap, junior 22, senior 22, Youth camp every summer.
The rules are awesome, they have a massive club house to renovated soon, an indoor range witch will be expanded, Electronic fob access system, for all major areas, video surveillance (NOT ON THE RANGE) but the main gate, and parking area. The security at this place is second to none, A@#holes are not welcome, every member is expected to be friendly, helping new members is a given. Safety is paramount at this club.
No range use fee, a ten dollar insurance registration for guest, $2.00 for juniors. Picture I.D. coming soon, with range quals indicated on them everybody knows who everybody is. If you are not a paying member no access. Friendly place.
If you like being treated like a person, respectfully. Enjoy good conversation, learning new things, family oriented environment then this is the place for you.

Sounds like it's certainly worth checking out...too bad it's such a long drive for me.

I was at mission last weekend and neither of the range wardens that were there had a problem with me rattling off full 10 rounders from buddies .22.. oddly enough when I asked one about joining I was told that my ar can only be one round and a time. He seemed to be at ease when I asked him " what if I shoot like a human being " so I dunno. I really liked the fact that it was 300 yards though.

Geezuz. Stop whining.

The caretaker gave you the stinkeye - you poor ittle thing. did you cry?
The mean people at the gun club aren't accepting new members - try counselling.

Gosh man(?). The rest of the world ain't responsible for your happiness, thats just what your mommy made you think. If you spent half as long looking for another gun club as you did crying on that first post you might accomplish something. The world doesn't owe you a freaking thing, sonny.

Your comment is uncalled for, your just the type of person we don't need at gun clubs:mad:.

First impressions are important. Gun clubs should be open and welcoming to new shooters and potential members. With the anti gun movement in our country the last thing we need is bone head remarks like yours.

Anything from North Vancouver to Whistler ? North of Whister, there's one just outside Pemberton.

There is a range in Squamish, but I think they have membership restrictions, too, if you do not live in Squamish. The Pemberton Range is great. 300 yards, rated to 50BMG, no magazine/cylinder restrictions, 2 trap houses and soon a dedicated handgun/ 100 yard range.:)

I'm surprised that there aren't more mentions for Thompson Mountain.

It may not be the most luxurious of places, but it has the leg up in many other areas such as:

No magazine limit - free to fill up your 30-rd .22LR magazine
Rapid-fire allowed - as long as you warn your neighbour ahead of time
Steel pistol gongs - any pistol ammo from .22LR to .50S&W is okay!
Shotgun gong - can practice shooting shotgun slugs
Flexible ceasefires - anybody can call a ceasefire at any time, there are no scheduled ceasefires; if you want a ceasefire simply inform a range warden or yell it out yourself. Of course you have to use common sense and pick good times (i.e. when most people are reloading or something).

Furthermore, TMSA is active in IPSC shooting and one of the only Clubs that run tactical rifle matches.

There are shotgun clay throwers, a Law-enforcement only range for officers that wish to practice shooting with their duty holsters, and there's a 100yd rifle range (currently being expanded, but still open for shooting). And of course there are several IPSC pads for members that are Black Badge holders.

If you're interested you could purchase a day card to try out the ranges. Non-members are allowed to use the public range (which is a combination of shotgun, rifle, and pistol) and the clay throwers. LE officers that are non-members can also purchase a day card to use the LE-only range, but they must use only their duty holsters. Lastly, TMSA members are allowed to accompany one day card holder to use the 100-rd range, but they'd only be allowed to occupy one shooting table.

When I first started out at TMSA as a newbie, everybody was very friendly and supportive, even though I committed a lot of newbie mistakes. I go there regularly and that atmosphere hasn't change.

Anyways, check out TMSA sometime and tell all your friends!

When I lived down there, I was a member of TMSA. It is a VERY pistol-oriented club and I certainly had no issues with the club, quite the opposite.

My only complaints are the membership fees, which i found very high, and the access. I quite liked Doug the Range Warden; he was quite the character.

I had several serious safety concerns about a group of ESL shooters that were there for a practical day as part of their PAL course (I packed up my wife and son and left) and i mentioned it to the Warden and the whole lot were told to leave. I was impressed by that.

Too short for meaningful rifle shooting, but full marks for their pistol/IPSC facilities and their treatment of members.

Langley Rod & Gun club gives lawful firearms owners a bad name, just with their stupid restrictive rules. I got a membership there once to get my LTATT. Now I go to Agassiz. I will never give LR&G any more of my money and I recommend everyone else stay away from them.

They way they treat "young adults" is horrible. Brought my pistol grip tactical mossberg 500 there and was told it was designed only for killing humans and that he didn't want it on his range. I did finally convince him to let me do a few rounds of trap, but i'll never go back there.

No firearms owner ,enthusiast or official or anyone who spend a day at range, WILL EVER EVER says that___( KILLING HUMANS ) ____PERIOD. I spend years and years from range to range to hunting groups to collecters to new comers to all sort of problematics BUT never heard that word. SO basically you are plain ignorant or plain liar_____PERIOD. So watch your langage you're putting for others to see, leaves nothing but BAD BAD name for firrearm owners, I would gladly accept your appology if you are in your senses.

NavyCuda's account of his experience rings true with me.

I'm not sure whether that would make me an ignorant liar or just plain ignorant. Oh well.

I'm a newbie looking for a club as well but I haven't considered anything but PoCo. My good friend and also my course instructor (the DOC) have had a great influence on my decision to soon join PoCo. I live in Langley to boot.

I'm a super friendly fella and I'm sure that wherever I go I'll find some like-minded shooters to enjoy the experience with.

If someone is a #### then that's that, I'll just leave 'em be and rise above.

Can't wait to get started!

divide and conquer - that's what it feels like in here. i don't think the firearms community should be bickering at each other like this, ALL of us are here on this forum because we enjoy our firearms, either for hunting or target shooting, or collecting. Let's make this a good experience for the newbies, no? I am a newbie, and if I had the same experiences as the first poster, it would rub me the wrong way (a little) about the sport/hobby. I wouldn't give up on it, but it doesn't feel good, feeling the way he did. Sometimes when I post on this forum I get grief, and it makes it hard for me to post again, thinking that someone else will hang me. I probably have asked and posted responses that made no sense to the veteran many times, and got flamed for it, but how else am i supposed to learn? sometimes you just have to suck it up and spit it out.

There have been many people on here that have been helpful, and for them, I am grateful. Thank you all!
