As Aug 18th approaches, members of the Canadian F Class National Team are starting to head down to Raton, NM to shoot both the US Nationals and World Championships. This is the NRA headquarters on 33,000acres of gun friendly terrain.

These events have some of the largest competitor numbers ever at an F class event and certainly a few times larger then the last Worlds. At least 420 shooters have signed up from all corners of the world.

Members from across the country and have put in a huge amount of time, effort and resources to field one of our most competitive teams for both F Open and F TR. This is truly a national team with pretty much 50/50 east and west representation.

A HUGE thanks to the various members and sponsors who have really pulled out all the stops to get the team "dialed in".

I will try and post updates and pics throughout the event but wifi is going to be limited where we are.

The Bald Eagles Club is the hosting club and is supposed to have updates through the matches. I hope that you will have a look and see how we are doing.

The shooting "mounds" are made from mine tailings or coal ash. A good shooting mat is important. I visited the local WalMart and bought a 3'x6' piece of carpet and shot off the back of that (off the rubber surface). By pushing the mat out 2' past the muzzle, I was able to avoid the cloud of nasty dust from muzzle blast.

Good luck down there. The Americans shoot a very busy schedule all day. You are either marking, scoring or shooting, and get to eat your lunch while marking targets. get to bed early. You need to be physically and mentally sharp over a long day.

don't forget to hydrate, with water only. won't get into the chemistry, but hydrating 1 -1.5 hours before each shoot and relieving x-cess just before the shoot will increase your accuracy by 5%, which is a big deal. It helps heart rate, focus, how rapidly the eyes adjust, and steadiness. Its simple yet often overlooked and costs nothing. Due to everything else going on at the shoot, it really is often forgotten.
