Girsan Regard Thread

I searched long and hard for Beretta frame cracking and literally nothing showed up except the link to that one with a miss cut frame rail.....
found this one rather quickly. it does happen but the old guys in my club say it is usually from neglect and old age. they showed me the week points and said just check when i clean and everythings good. i think it may come down to luck, as in this quote i found on a beretta forum "It's all man-made.........I have a 92fs that I Inherited .......was my dad's duty weapon; has soooo many rounds through it I'm surprised it hasn't cracked , melted down, caused the internet to crash, altered the election and generally brought humanity to a screeching halt; yet it keeps on running like the energizer bunny and I put ??????????? rounds through it with nothing more than a wipe & a dab of slide glide....Luck o' the Irish? Oooops I mean Italians!......Cracks? I don't see no stinkin' cracks!

I see slide cracked, locking block busted, but no frame cracks in that thread?

Probably 1100 through mine, still nice and tight. There are wear marks on the finish on the slide rails and locking block, etc. but I'm assuming that's pretty normal.

1400 rounds down the tube, everything looks good, shoots great looks like it did when i bought it

Correct me if I am wrong, we are talking about Girsan millage, not Beretta? I have no doubt about Beretta's quality....I am want to know about Girsans

I've been shooting nothing but cast hand loads from mine from the start. Leads up a bit near the chamber, but nothing serious.

I just can't shoot with the bugger, no matter how carefully I practice technique. I'm always low and right. I gave it to a right handed friend and he's even more to the right with it than I am(I'm southpaw). Last night I stuck the slide in the vice and beat the almighty out of the back sight. Hopefully I'll get some range time this weekend.

Not a bad pistol otherwise, though I'm still pondering trying to sell it (without giving it away) and saving for a CZ

Silly me. I was worried about my slide breaking accidentally. they make a tool for drift adjustible sights. its a small vice and it won't damage the sight or help start cracks in your slide

kshneider, how did you get one of those sprinco ones in Canada? It says they won't ship outside the us. Quite firmly.
talked to Alan, the owner of Sprinco today. He has applied for his export license and he should be able to sell directly to us in a few week. he is going to email me when good to go. I went through the same thing with Majestic Arms for the Speed Strip kit for the Ruger Mark III. He also said a few weeks but it ended up being 4 months. I finally got it though. I'll eventually get this as well. If anyone is interested, i'll keep you posted. He says that the spring that is part of the rod and the recoil spring that they supply with it last a long, long time. When a friend who is a machinest read there discription of the spring and how its made he agreed it should last a very long time with what we are shooting and the amount of lead we throw down range.

I beat it to buggery with a gentleman's touch. ;) Maybe I'm just used to dealing with the Chinese stuff...

I used to go nuts and buy single use tools that I would use only once.

damn, Brownells removed the Bianco buffers from my order as Bianco has no manufacturer's export license....at least I am getting the set of heavier Wolff springs.
This is truly ridiculous, two tiny pieces of rubber and they cannot ship....:(

no offence but you would rather have 2 tiny pieces of rubber than the Sprinco design. The following is from their web site-http://www.sprinco.com/recoil.html

Extend the life of your weapon by installing a Sprinco Recoil Management Guide Rod System. A secondary, or sub-spring assembly is incorporated onto a heat treated, stainless steel guide rod to cushion the slide to frame impact! All components, including the chrome silicon wire secondary springs, are hand polished to a brilliant finish for reduced friction.

Our products are used by many of the top competition shooters in the world, including both World and Multi-National Champions. Their reliability is validated by their use by Law Enforcement and Elite U.S. Military Forces around the world in combat deployment. Bianco just seems like the cheap way to me. again, please don't be offended. I was all set to order something very similar to the bianco tell i discovered the sprinco system. i know $80 is alot more than $10 but for $10 you get a hunk of rubber that you will have to replace who knows how often. for $80 you get a heat treated stainless steel guide rod with a built in chrome silicon wire secondary sub spring assembly and a chrome silicon wire recoil spring that with what we are shooting should last for years. it seems like a better deal to me because i wanted a nice shiney guide rod anyway.

I can tell you I wouldn't buy the $90 sprinco outfit....not with the intent that it is going to make my gun last longer....
Beretta puts buffers in the 96 from the factory, so they at least offer some logical protection.
But I wouldn't use one in a 9mm anyway....

I'm not worried about middle-heat cast loads shortening the life of a sub $500 recreational pistol, myself.

I've more or less outgrown my desire to farkle without need.

agreed, we are getting worked up about something that most likely doesn't need any tinkering. Having said that, I will install a heavier Wolff spring and call it a day. I thought installing $8 piece of rubber is not a significant expense and perhaps worth try, but not $90 shiny bugger kit.

each his own. what bothered you more about the shiney bugger, the price, or how pretty it is. you think thats shiney, wait till you see it with all the other shiney bugger stuff on it. it will be so damn shiney i'll only be able to shoot on cloudy days. but thats just my preference. and we are all entitled to our own opinions. as far as needing to, i do way more things because i want to, rather than need to.the things we need to do are usually unpleasant, like say, you need to get a colonoscopy. the thing i want to do, on the other hand, are fun, like making my gun better functioning as well as better looking. but mostly, i do it because i can. lighten up on the sarcasm. wasn't it bad enough when you all scared poor trev82 away. remember your favorite whipping boy. oh wait. nestor scared him away. nestor is conspicuous in his absence. where did you go. not going to put in your 2 cents on the sprinco.

I want to see what it looks like all shiny. Just warn us when you post so I'll have my sunglasses on...

I suppose unlike myself, he is actually shooting that darn shiny toy.

As far as customizing your gun with a sprinco kit, by all means, it's your toy and you can customize it any way you want. I'll spend the $90 on more ammo, but do let us know how that kit works out once you get it.

i'll keep you all posted. sorry for my animosity in my earlier posts. you just kind of get use to not being taken seriously or second guessed in this sport when your a women. from now on i'll play nice.
