Glock 19 Gen 4 Canadian Edition

I am constantly surprised that Glock hasn't come out with a hybrid G17/19 pistol.

It would be IMO an ideal CDN Glock. Wouldn't have a stupid looking barrel pokeout satisfy the barrel length issue.

Besides being CDN exclusive and cool......

A G19 frame with aG17 top end is an excellent balance and very shooter friendly.
The extra sight radius and muzzle forward balance make it more practically accurate.

Of course for CDN's the compact issue is irrelevant under our current oppression...but things can change.

The G19 gripframe altho not hugely shorter than the 17 would def conceal and carry easier/more discreetly while slide length doesn't affect much until much longer.

A G19/G17 hybrid, no finger bumps, steel sights with colour options like grey/OD etc...and distinctly CDN markings including a maple leaf.....
I would be in for a pair!

The CDN market is too small obviously to expect such a package.

But the G17/19 hybrid is an excellent platform...very surprised Glock don't offer it. Would cost them literally nothing to do so...simply mixing matching existing parts and into the Tupperware box they go.
There are plenty of aftermarket companies doing it...and even more self jobs.
I have a couple and they work great.

This has been my question since I made my first G17K...

Can anyone confirm if these will be a limited run or an ongoing model?

The original article regarding this gun states that it will be a regular offering, not a limited edition. And we can not buy the barrels separately. 2 distributors are trying to get as many as possible, then distributing to stores who will sell them.

Ugh, p*ss off. Alls glock has to do is make barrels for us. Instead they flop all there inventory of big duty pistols Americans don't want on us. Aside from law enforcement I see no real use for full size pistols like the 17, 21 ect. Got 34s and the like for competition, otherwise I'd prefer compacts for duty myself (anything a 17 can do, a 19 can do better).

Alas, glock's suckered more my money. I'll need that barrel so guess I got a brand new 19 along with a 26! Cheesy maple leaf and all : )

Is that not what the G19X is ? Comes out today actually. Obviously not in Canada but it’s a G17 frame with a G19 slide

No, the G17”K” is a G17 slide with the G17 frame but the grip cut down to a G19 size. In the States, you’ll carry a G19 mag as the first with G17+2 mags as the backup. The X model serves no purpose and is the opposite of what most people are looking for. The grip is the area most difficult to conceal, not a few mms of barrel. This is why our 12(6) laws are so dumb. Barrel length is mostly irrelevant to concealment.

It's not standardized (since it's not standard production), but I think the more popular convention is to call these "G19L". Just as cutting a G19 grip down to G26 dimensions is called "G26L".

The purpose of the G19x is detailed in another thread here on CGN.

Yeah, I don't like it either, but it's their business. There is a market for barrels, and IGB and Lone Wolf apparently make money in it.

Have to disagree about full-size duty pistols though: There's an application for every barrel length and sight plane length, from G34 to G26.

In the posted article the author points out that 19L is less accurate as no parts in a 17K/19L are from a 19. So 17K (for "Kurz") is more technically accurate.

Depends how you think of it. "Kurz" means short, and in firearms nomenclature I've only ever seen it applied to barrel length (e.g. G36K). Neither is technically very correct for this type of modified Glock, I'm just saying which is more commonly seen.

Lots of internet references to Glock 19L / 26L, and fewer to 17K / 19K.

I guess I also see if from the aspect that when they shortened the pull on the frames they called them "short frames" so it would make sense that shortening the frame, would result in similar nomenclature.

Exactly... call it whatever you want to guys, since it's a modification that you have to do (or have done) yourself. I still think Glock would have been light-years further ahead to do this vice the 19X (AKA the solution to a question that nobody asked)...

I asked S&W Marketing the same question as some have expressed here. Why not put a 4.25" slide aka FS slide on the new Compact frame and sell it up here, The gun would look like a finished gun as opposed to a puppy with it's first hard on, and be not significantly bigger than an existing G 19. In fact the size difference would be about 2mm longer. The Marketing rep said she would take it up with her superiors. I have heard nothing since.

The "Canadian Edition" Glock is nothing more than a way to flog off Gen 4 compact frames IMHO and it seems to be working. How Glock sells these guns north of $900 is a mystery to me. I guess they do because they can. The G19 sells for $547US or $678CdN At Budd's Gun Shop with night sights.

Maybe it's your presentation Bob?? LOL For what it's worth, I agree 100% - i think that configuration would sell like hot cakes!!

Send an email to S&W. The more interest we generate the more likely they will respond favourably. They eventually did with their 4.2" barreled revolvers after Ruger came out with their 4.2" Ruger GP-100.

I can't be the only one who thinks the extended barrel looks ....well just dumb.
