This will certainly a very entertaining revolver to shoot, the rarity of the Toklat Alaskan 454 Casull make it very desirable... JP.
Thanks for this video, i had not seen it, now i am more excited... JP.![]()
I just love powerfull handguns.
…are you still shooting your 617? It's a handful isn't it
I'd love to pick up one of these but I don't have the "special" status stamped on my licence…

I've never shot a 454 Casull, but if felt recoil is more than that of a S&W factory load 500 it will be obnoxious. (I'm a bit of a wussy I guess as anything with heavier recoil than a .44 Rem mag I don't see much point in owning)
As has been said though, that Ruger is very versatile. I have a question. The S&W 460 will accept 454 Casull, .45 Long Colt and of course the .460 cartridge, this Ruger Alaskan will accept the Casull round and the .45 Long Colt. Will the Ruger also accept the .460? (.460 is stupid powerful, but perhaps a goldie locks cartridge between the Casull and Long Colt?)
Range report that bad boy when it comes in thought Carmel, we love to play with your toys vicariously!![]()
I've been shooting a shortened to 4.25" barreled Ruger SRH in 454 Casull for 7 - 8 years now the sight and barrel work were done by Gunnar @ Armco Machining in Prince George.
It shoots everything I load for it Cowboy Action 45 Colt loads up to 454 Casull loads well my favorite loads are 405gr WLNGC's @ 1330fps.
I installed a Crimson Trace laser grip as well.
If I could only own one handgun it would be this one.

Have fun with that JP !
Hoping you'll post some pics of it in action once you get it out .
Don't forget the weight of these revolvers and its effect on felt recoil.JP, have you ever shot a S&W .460V? I shoot one with .45LC, .454 Casull and .460 S&W. The .454 Casull is pretty snappy but it is not quite as nasty as the .460V. Still, it is an excellent round. When I saw the thread, I thought you bought the .454 in a lever action. That's something I would like.
Anyway, enjoy the new gun. Hornady 300 grain rounds are the most fun factory loads I've found so far.
