Got me a 454 Casull Alaskan...

This will certainly a very entertaining revolver to shoot, the rarity of the Toklat Alaskan 454 Casull make it very desirable... JP.

The short barreled Alaskan's have been know to "pull bullets" under recoil from full house loads. Not sure if the problem occurs with the 5" barrel though. Just something to check on the first couple cylinders.

It's kinda ugly yet cool at the same time, particularly for being Not 44 Magnum.

It should be nice with 45 Colt once you get sick of beating yourself up. I know I like my model 25 Smiths.

"Entertaining" as in gets you some attention at the range or entertaining as in.... fun to shoot?... :)
It's all ready entertaining and it hasn't even arrived yet!

The price was reasonable and it should hold it's value fairly well. There will always be someone that "needs/wants" the biggest gun or close to it.

Thanks for this video, i had not seen it, now i am more excited... JP.:dancingbanana:

The depressing part is that Hickock45 lives on 40 acres he can shoot on. He must have pretty tolerant (or deaf) neighbours, too.

I just love powerfull handguns, in a rifle, i think anything over a 308 is not necessairy but the feeling of shooting a powerfull handgun is just a huge fun factor happening... JP.

…are you still shooting your 617? It's a handful isn't it :)
I'd love to pick up one of these but I don't have the "special" status stamped on my licence…

I do, my 617 is soo accurate... This is a very nice revolver, stubby brother of mine... JP

I've never shot a 454 Casull, but if felt recoil is more than that of a S&W factory load 500 it will be obnoxious. (I'm a bit of a wussy I guess as anything with heavier recoil than a .44 Rem mag I don't see much point in owning)
As has been said though, that Ruger is very versatile. I have a question. The S&W 460 will accept 454 Casull, .45 Long Colt and of course the .460 cartridge, this Ruger Alaskan will accept the Casull round and the .45 Long Colt. Will the Ruger also accept the .460? (.460 is stupid powerful, but perhaps a goldie locks cartridge between the Casull and Long Colt?)

Range report that bad boy when it comes in thought Carmel, we love to play with your toys vicariously! :)

No it won't. In terms of cartridge size it goes 460 S&W>454 Casull>45 LC from what I know.

I've been shooting a shortened to 4.25" barreled Ruger SRH in 454 Casull for 7 - 8 years now the sight and barrel work were done by Gunnar @ Armco Machining in Prince George.

It shoots everything I load for it Cowboy Action 45 Colt loads up to 454 Casull loads well my favorite loads are 405gr WLNGC's @ 1330fps.

I installed a Crimson Trace laser grip as well.

If I could only own one handgun it would be this one.

too bad ruger doesn't make them like that short barrel custom. very nicely done.

JP, have you ever shot a S&W .460V? I shoot one with .45LC, .454 Casull and .460 S&W. The .454 Casull is pretty snappy but it is not quite as nasty as the .460V. Still, it is an excellent round. When I saw the thread, I thought you bought the .454 in a lever action. That's something I would like.

Anyway, enjoy the new gun. Hornady 300 grain rounds are the most fun factory loads I've found so far.

Don't forget the weight of these revolvers and its effect on felt recoil.

A S&W 460 weighs around 61 oz. A 7.5" SRH weighs 52 oz and Caramel's 5:" will probably be around 48 oz. Felt recoil wise these .454 Casull SRH's are a handful especially with the Ruger grips on them.

I went to a grand surface store today to get some fishing gears for my grandkid Ray and i got lucky, in the ammo bargain bin( just beside the cashier, for those who know the place), there was 4X20 rounds of 454 Casull Winchester Platinium Gold 260 gr, got a manager deal at 115.00 all in for the 4 boxes... Just a great deal... JP.
