Got my mosin and ammo today/ my hubris is my downfall

i usually feel people are too easy on the dealers on cgn but c'mon. its an 80 year old rifle that has seen some hard livin' and some history. they cant all be mint condition. the op realizes that.

Well not 100 percent mint but they can be a little better then that...

I just sent them an email asking the price per case and the condition. Just curious. I'm sure, the best have been well picked over by now. The one I bought from you last year was a 1938 and is a beautiful specimen. Refurbished and the barrel looks almost new. Shoots like a dream. Thank you for a great purchase.

Same here... I paid 110$ and it was an awesome specimen! Look brand new !
Thx again !

Thanks for that glowing comment. We can't see rust under the wood and most of the stocks are flaking on the last shipment. I searched thru over 2 dozen guns to find a hex for him. I could have just of easily told him there were no older ones but that's not what we do. The older ones are more picked over as that's the most common request.

I appreciate the effort in finding the hex. Like I said, I got exactly what I asked for. I am not trying to nitpick here but I could tell as soon as it was out of the box (thanks for the basic brown btw) that this rifle was very rusty. Hell I had to look up online to know the front metal end cap is black.

I just want to say, I understand an 80+ year old rifle has seen some ups and downs. I knew the risks when I bought this and I feel the pluses balance the negatives of this rifle. This will be my first real restoration project, and for what you charged me I am glad the bolt and receiver match. I am sure it will shoot fine.

That post wasn't directed at you, it was directed at the other person. I used to find cases of mint hex receiver guns, now even hex are rare :( Bed time for me.

'oldest that shoots please....' apparent translation-please send me a huge pos....
memo to self....never buy from sfrc....

thanks chemist for the svt combo I bought back in the early spring, perfect. memo to self must buy from sfrc again.

I deal with sfrc on a regular basis I think there service is great if your buying a mosin out of the crate you have to expect this.
Not all are perfect referbs mostly a hex that has seen service if the bore is good and it shoots I would be happy

I recently bought from them and from order to door step it was seven days and I thought that was amazing. I would definitely buy again.

Great to deal with, good value, my Mosin shoots better than I do. Has the flaking shellac thing too, what's the best way to clean that up, I've just been having fun shooting it so far.

Steel wool or fine sandpaper, then stain it, Red Mahogany is very close to the original color, then a coat or two of Varethane.

Cpt Fancy, I dropped you a PM but didn't hear back from you. Can you PM or email me your order #?

Ryan

Got my Mosin and ammo today, and am kicking myself for it.

The Good:

- Delivered on time and processed fast (Saturday ordered, in hand Friday, from across the country)
- Bolt and receiver are matching (woo!)
- Have all the little bits (firing pin checker, cleaning bits and such)
- From 1935 (pre war, score)

The Great:

- Tula built with hex receiver!
- Ammo is in really nice white boxes of 20 (expecting to have to open another lead solder can)

The not so Great:

- Bayonet does not even come close to fitting (I know that this is common, a risk with all online mosin buys)
- no AR pen or other swag (Oh well, maybe next time)

The downright Ugly:

- Stock's wood finish is falling apart as I hold it (little flakes are everywhere!)
- Every part other then the bolt, mag and receiver is rusty to a painful level (over 9000 at least)

I put in the comment line of my order "If you have more then one rifle, I would like the oldest that shoots please." So I got exactly what I asked for, and a lot more work then I bargained for. Curse my arrogance.

Thanks SFRC, you will likely have another order from me; after I remove my foot from my mouth.

Oh and does anyone know any tricks for rust removal/bluing? Or if I would be better removing material from the bayonet or the front sight?
