Grand Power K100

K100 Whisper nice has nice tactical feature, remind me a bit of the USP tactical. I was wondering if it would have black or blue slide and barrel instead of silver?

I got mine this week. Patrol model, with leather holster and extra mags. All together I paid a lot less than I would have for any other polymer gun. I haven't shot it yet, but my general impression of the k100 is very good. The grip is great! It feels like it was made for me. Balance is perfect. You can carry it cocked and locked or standard double action. Clear sights.

Things that make me go "hmmm": Two small pits in slide. The safety isn't crisp enough = dangerous for cocked and locked. When you rack the slide and touch the trigger there is a faint "click", almost like the trigger reset? You have to hold the trigger guard down to disassemble the gun, which is really hard to learn on your own when the manual is for a mark 6 that appears to have a guard that stays in the open position. The barrel wasn't cleaned very well after it was test fired in the factory. Plastic front sight.

General note: I tend to focus on flaws and end up with more cons than pros.

No, it's trigger guard down and forward (not to the side). This is for the patrol model.

0. Make gun safe and remove magazine.

1. Hold pistol in right hand, pointing left (so you are looking at the pistol's left side).

2. Hook your left index finger through trigger guard and grip it with that hooking finger.

3. Place your left thumb up against the front of the trigger guard. Thumb tip should be up against the bottom of the frame in front of the trigger guard, ready to provide leverage.

Hard to describe but easy to see and feel. It is a natural feeling position, so try it before continuing:

4. Pull forward and down on the trigger guard, push up against the frame with your left thumb for leverage. The trigger guard should flex and come out. Once it has JUST cleared out, hold it out by maintaining a forward and down pull with your left hand.

5. With your right hand, pull slide all the way back, pull back of slide up and off the rails, and then forward off the gun.

I'm actually pretty good at it now, but the first time was hell. Took me a long time to figure out the technique. I was getting really angry and was sure that I had a defective model the first day. The new grand power web site has better instructions for the patrol model and I finally got it. Otherwise I'm really happy with the gun.

I also had my problems with the takedown, or at least the reassembly! Now its a snap though. Anyways, great little pistol, its exceptionally shootable and beefy, actually making an older P226 I had seem a bit tinny and "clacky" in comparison. I'm a little concerned at this point about spares though, does anyone know when or where items like mag and recoil springs will be available? I'd rather not have to order straight from Slovakia if possible.

I've had to return my k100 to marstar due to a number of flaws. I just don't have any luck it seems. Should have a new one in a week or two.
1. pitting on slide, pre finish
2. off centre front sight
3. slide stop problem. Inserting loaded mag caused slide to automatically close with chambered round.
Anyone else have any of these problems?

I just received a silver K100 and had a chance to put about 160 rounds through it today. The slidestop problem showed up after 100 rounds. If you ram the new mag firmly into the grip, the slide closes and chambers a round. I'll call Marstar on Monday.
Otherwise, I'm happy with the gun and all six of the mags worked well. They are much better quality than the Norinco NP40 mags I bought recently and didn't jam once. I found the trigger has a fairy long pull and may take some getting used to. I found Jaro's comment about the target model interesting - if I had known that the trigger was better, I may have purchased the target model rather than the silver. I do like the two-tone colour scheme, and am very pleased with the fit and finish of the gun.
It was cold and wet and I didn't have a lot of time to do a proper evaluation except to try a few side-by-side target comparisons with the NP40 using hot hand loads and the K100 using 147g FMJ American Eagle ammo. At 15 yards the NP40 had tighter groups and at 25 yards, the K100 had the better groups. I don't think it was a valid test, except the K100 didn't jam while the NP 40 had a few. More later when I get the slide stop issue addressed and put more rounds down-range.

Why is this a bad thing?
My PPK and my HSc both did this and I think it's a useful/helpful action. I'd make any pistol I had do this if I could.

Splatter, my thinking is that a defect, no matter how useful, indicates a problem with the manufacturing of that gun. In my case the gun had three problems that were discouvered before I even shot it. Who knows what other flaws there are.

AFAIK, nobody has reviewed the NP40 with pictures. Please start a thread about this and let me know when you do, please.

Slaming a loaded mag in a opened slide gun and chamber a round is perfectly normal, many guns do that.
For the front sight, you didn't shoot it, it was maybe point of Aim/Impact.

I've had many, many glocks that chamber a round when a loaded mag is inserted harshly, thought nothing of it.

If the gun was designed to chamber a round when a full mag is inserted, fine. I have experience with only 5 or 6 semi-autos, and this is the first one that does it, and it was a real surprise. Note - when the action stays open after the last round, with the empty mag in place, no amount of thumping or shaking will allow the action to close. Perhaps a note in the manual would help if this is how the gun is supposed to behave.

I have to agree with Geoff B and my experience seems to mirror his. Marstar told me that this was a problem that was supposed to be fixed with the k100. For the record I wasn't slamming the mag in with unusual force. As for the front sight, you could actually see that it wasn't centered on the spine of the slide. Perhaps I got a Monday am production gun and the guy was still working off a hangover.

Dear friend
I regret your dissatisfaction with our product, however I think it is necessary to mention following facts.I am sorry about small pits.It is an essential wrong when using cast.Th slide of the K100 is made as accurate cast with method of lost wax.Micro bubles always occure with the casts. In the places which have influence on the lifetime of the pistols ,we control the casts and we put them away.In the case that they do not have a bad influence on the life time of the gun we put them forward.
Could you please send us the photo of these pits which bothers you.
Excentric front sight:I am hundred percent certain that from us the gun which was sold left us with correct positioning of the front sight. But considering that we lowered the cost we changed for plastic front sight in basic equipment.(same as with Glock)it more than probable that this was deformed with unprofesional manipulation now I can not say if it were people from Marstar( I do not think so) or your customs officers or whomever.
However very simple solution is for few bucks to buy steel front sight which will certainly over-live you..
Self release of the slide when reloading the magazine:this matter was disccussed on this forum before.
It is on purpose.because our pistols are used mainly with IPSC shooters,we were trying to find solution,to shorten the time during reloading between individual shots.I can assure you that it cost us lots of effort to find the right angle between slide stop and slide which is necessary and how strong must the recoil spring be .The result is that when you reload K100 with full magazine ,slide closes itself, which saves the time.if it really restraines you, please sned an order to Marstar and we will send you specially made pistol K100 for you , where you will have to release the slide stop manualy.
All the best.

Thank you for the slide stop information. Marstar gave me the same answer this morning. Now that I know that it's supposed to work that way, I'm happy.
