Grizzly bullet for 30-06

WHY do these threads ALWAYS degenerate into name-calling and s**t? It makes me want to..............:puke:

I have a .35 whelen I shot a nice bore black bear with a 200gr and it dropped on spot I love the gun but I'm having trouble finding brass or factory rounds in Canada just wondering if any of you guys can point me in the right direction
 
I'm just starting into reloading and really don't know how to neck up brass I used to be able to buy ammo almost anywhere a few years ago but with laws alot of dept stores such as Canadian tire stopped selling ammo and smaller business don't see it feasible to bring some for ahandful of guys that use that cartridge at least around Halifax N.S

.......just throw the 06 brass through your .35 Whelen sizing die. Its up to the owner of the Canadian Tire stor in question as to whether he/she wants to carry ammo. They all do in Alberta in fact one in Calgary sells guns still i believe.
 
thats it you have fired these rounds with no problems that would be awesome and will definitly try this didn't realize that was it but yeah C.T doesn't sell guns but sell some popular ammo such as 30/30 .22 , 270,7mm etc... samething at walmart I usaully don't deal with these places but gun shops are limited around here Halifax that is

well I fired some 200 gr TSX over H4831, found the speed I was looking for (2550 fps) but from my initial results the accuracy might be lacking. Id be limiting my shots to 200 yards and in with the 30-06 anyways, so I dont need minute of gopher, but Id still like to keep groups under 3" at 200

I have loaded some up to test group size but I might not be able to get to the range, been busy all day :mad: FWIW the 200 gr Speer spitzer shot well, and I have loaded some 200 gr Lapua Mega round nose to try as well, just for kicks.
 
Nosler, Hornady, and Sierra all still make 220 gr .308 bullets. Loaded to 2450, a 220/30 wouldn't do ole Bart any good. If you chase him into the willows you won't have to worry about 200 yard accuracy.
 
well the 200 gr TSX wasnt as bad as I thought, it will work just fine for bear hunting where shots are normally at 200 yards or closer, usually under 100. It will print a little over an inch at 100 yards average for 4 groups, at a speed of 2520 fps (58 grains H4831sc/WLRM) :)
 
Federal High Energy 180 gr Partitions. 3300+ ft/lbs of bear-busting torque. Try and squeeze that out of a handload.:cool:

That load is listed at 2880fps, which isn't that much of a jump over a good handload. Many reloading manuals list 30-06 velocities for 180gr bullets in the 2750-2800fps range.:slap:
 
My question is...............How much farther will a 200gr TSX penetrate through a grizzled bear than the 150 of same manufacture, and will it hurt more when it hits?

In answer to my own question, I'll say not much, and no.;)

find me a few dozen grizzly bears that stand at different angles and I could probably give you a better answer for your question :D for now I'll stick with the heavier boolit
 
06 grizz boolit

I chronied a 220 Hornady out of my old Remington 700 with a 22 inch barrel, I was pleasntly surprised when the chrony read out at 2511 fps. :eek: With 200 grain bullets I believe another 150 to 200 fps is obtainable. I have a bunch more of the 220 grainers waiting for when my 98 Mauser 06 gets done.:D The TSX is a good bullet and will hold together better if bone is hit, but a 200 or 220 in the right spot will work just fine.:shotgun: After the shot the work starts and the camera gets a workout.
