Grizzly bullet for 30-06

Todd,
My grizzly was taken in the Ootsa Lake area ( i beleive that is not too far from where you are ) I used a 30-338 with 190gr Hornady's i had them loaded fairly lite about the same speed as a stoked 30-06 . My first shot was at about 30ft broadside i hit him high in the lungs then things got a little bit stupid for a few seconds until i got the next lucky one in his head/neck to stop him , After we opened him up i seen that both lungs were destroyed but he never even went down after the first shot ,had i not got the second one in his head quickly i think things may have got real exciting . The bullet did its job well but the shot placement could have been better /lower would have worked better.
All i can say is go a fairly heavy bullet and shoot it well ..... Good luck on your draw , i will be moving to Alberta soon so there ends my grizzly hunting :(
:) Gary

The 150 or 168/165gr TSX would be all you ever needed. Though for a dedicated grizz hunt I might, if not too lazy to work up a load, give the 180gr NF a go.

I like the 220gr Nosler Partition. I haven't used it on a grizzly but a fellow I used to hunt with has taken 3 with with this bullet.

Good for you TB!!!

Yes I agree let's break out the popcorn.

I am looking forward to hearing the hunt report. Maybe you could bring Gatehouse as backup with his spear? :p

Or as a decoy! :D

Well looky here. The Internet Legend has procured a grizzly bear draw, which he will stalk with his mighty 30-06:rockOn: This could be our fineset hour. Thanks Doug, don't mind if I do..

Oh man, we are going to need TONS of popcorn for this one! :p

Clarke, buddy, are you not going to do one for the gipper??? All you need to do is smear yourself with salmon slime and wait patiently with your spear while TB shoots that thousand pound bruin with his popgun! Mind you, the popgun will be loaded with ballistically excellent bullets, no doubt about that!!!!

Salty, pass the extra butter please....

Doug

Here ya go Doug-------------> :popCorn:

But I wonder if the ballistics geneous of tb will be of no real use here.. being that ursis horibelus will probably show up closer than the ballistics tables provide data for

Hey Clarke, I have another idea. Smear the salmon slime on TB and locate yourself above him in a tree stand. So if he misses the bear and you have to do the backup thing with the spear you have the advantage of height!

Doug

Congratulations, Tod.

So this turned out to be the rare bear rifle thread that actually ended up having a reason to exist? I don't believe it!
