It's the smallest restricted handgun you can own. Add to that it has an amazing trigger, fantastic design and is very slim and rugged. I can't get enough of them.

Well, we took the PSP to the range today. I'm very impressed with this gun! So that you guys wouldn't think that I cherry picked my best groupings (which is what everybody does anyway, but hey...) I'm posting a sheet of paper with 6 different targets on it. I shot these one after the other, starting from the top left, four shots on each point of aim. at 10 yards. These are the first 24 shots I took with the pistol:
PSPtarget2.jpg

That is damn impressive if you ask me. With a little practice, this gun will surpass anything else I've got, including my beloved P229.

As a kind of "control group", I shot three targets, 5 shots each, off the same target stand right afterwards with my SIG 229, same ammo. This was the results. As you can see it is about the same accuracy - and the above 24 shots were my first shots with the P7! These guns can shoot!

Randy, one of the ROs at PoCo, did this grouping on his first 8 shots with the PSP:

On the dreaded "heating up" issue. This seems like b.s. to me. I didn't feel any noticeable heating until I shot 56 shots (8 full mags) in a row, only breaking to load the mags (I only have 2), and even then it was really minor. So maybe if you have 10 mags and you bang them out all in a row it would get toasty, but the whole heatshield thing is pretty pointless. Steyr GB can get hot too, and none of them have heatshields. I think the people that paid $2,000 for their P7 just raise this issue to make themselves feel a bit better for overpaying by $1,200 :p

Here are some pics of my GF and myself shooting the PSP. I'm going to post some video on Youtube as well. The gun is damn small looking, but man is it ever a shooter!

ARRRRGH. Thanks for all the pic's but mine has yet to arrive and I'm not sure if the pic's are helping to tide me over or just making me more anxious. I already have three mags that I bought on-line loaded and ready to go, I just need the pistol now!

In another thread I was talking about this weird "German Police Surplus" holster I bought from a guy on ebay. This is it. It is not exactly a practical holster, but it is very "neat", and it was only $19.

Does anybody know if German police actually ever used anything like this. It seems the gun is too hard to get at by North American cop standards. It has that neat feature that allows it to swivel on the belt though.

That's some nice shooting. An experienced target shooter in slow fire can put those same groups at 25 yards, which makes it the most accurate service pistol out there, bar none.

As for heating, notice the snow on the ground when you were shooting? If you do high-volume training on a hot day, you'll risk burned fingers. Of course the gun isn't designed for high-volume training - it's designed to win a gunfight with a mag or two or less. At that, I figure it would excel.

The saying is "fast, flat and accurate" - all true.

Most excellent. Welcome to the cult, albeit at a reasonable price of admission. Check out Del Fatti leather, unanimously, the only holsters prestigious enough for the elegant P7.

I have a Delfatti holster for my P7M8, I had to DOUBLE bag it and jam it in the holster to break it in enough to be able to draw the gun from it. Very tight holster.

In my experience Lou Alessi's CQC/S holsters don't need much breaking in yet the gun stays snug and secure in it.

Wait list for Lou is over 1 year, for Matt is around 2 years +.

You could try Lightning arms, but prepare to pay a bit more, still if it's in stock, it's worth the lack of waiting time and Lightning Arms is a Class Act.

Sweet holster, will it fit the M13?

I think it might. It isn't super tight on the PSP. I'd have to check the dimensions of the slide on the M13. If it is the same or very similar then it should work. I was under the impression that the M13 was mostly just fatter in the grip.

Here is the Youtube video of the PSP from today. It should be up and working by now. It's hard to see the gun in the video since it is very small, but there it is.

Here are some more pics of the holster for those of you that are interested. It feels pretty "sci-fi" to wear it. Either that or you feel like you should be chasing Jason Bourne around Berlin :p

The swivel feature is, as I understand it, for when you are sittin in the cop car. Leave it to the Germans to invent all this neat stuff.

My only thing about this holster is... it seems to over-secure the gun for police work. I wouldn't want to be popping both of those snaps in a life-and-death situation. On the plus side though, with a P7 you'd have no problem hitting your target if you had half a second to aim :)

hey ghostie, i note from your picture that the hk looked like it was not jumping from any recoil, is that the case.

been interested in one of these, with the price difference, how is the heel magazine release on yours, easy to master? stiff?

do you still recommend it?

your targets look good, but i think you can do better once you get over the excitement with the new toy. lol

you need to go get the dvd, if you don't have it already, with Rutger Hauer in Wanted: Dead or Alive. he had the hk and the cold steel tanto, not to mention parking his motorcycle in the loft. The P7 held the mystique for me after that movie came out.

Hi John,

Here's the other video from yesterday. It should be working on Youtube. Sometimes there is a bit of a delay after they are uploaded, but I think it is working now.

You can see that she sems to get surprised by the recoil on the first shot, but then the rest look smooth. The recoil is very minor on this pistol I think. Somebody had an excellent historical add from HK posted on the CGN board explaining the P7. One of the points it made is that the recoiling mass (the slide) is a lot less with this gun than many other designs. That seems to be the case.

The mag release is fine. The main difference is that, with a N. American mag release you drop the mag with your strong hand at the same time you are going for the new mag off your belt with your weak hand. With the Euro-style, you have to release the spent mag with your weak hand before going for the new mag with that same hand, so it is an extra motion, but it is very minor - since if you are shooting two handed your weak hand is almost in position to release the mag as soon as it is empty.

The way the mag releases is a pinch motion between your thumb and first finger. It is not stiff at all, and it is actually pretty intuitive once you do it a few times. I'll post some pictures.

I would recommend the gun. It's very fun to use. I'm looking forward to using it again next week.

I haven't seen that movie, I'll have to look for it. I'm a nut about idenifying guns in movies and TV shows too.

Ghostie, great writeups/vids. Thanks Man!

I can totally see a German cop wearing that holster. ;) Where can I get one?

Cheers.

There is a guy from Mesa Tactical in Arizona who got a bunch of them. He has been selling them on ebay. They have been going for between $19 and $35. The reserve bid is $19. That is what I paid for mine. Just seach P7, PSP, Heckler, etc. on ebay and you'll find it.

Here are small-ish versions of some more pics I took on Friday:

John Kwok was wondering about the heel release. This is how it works. In this first photo the mag is seated and the catch is "up". In the second photo the catch is "down" and the mag has popped out. I put my thumb on the catch, and hook my first finger around the front of the base of the mag, "pinch" and pull down. I imagine this is what everyone does. The system is actually a good one - it just requires both hands to get the mag out of the gun. Every system I can think of requires both hands to get the mag into the gun though, so no big deal.

Are the guns pictured above Grade B or Grade C? They seem to have a lot of holster wear compared to other PSP pics I've seen on the net.
