Handgun Transfer

We have just been notified that in order to process the abundance of restricted handgun transfers, the Alberta CFO has advised us that they are only sending the buyer's copy and not the seller's copy.

Since we are not receiving our seller's copy of the transfer approvals, we ask that you please email your buyer's approval copy to carolyn@irunguns.ca and she will finalize your orders and get things rolling.

I called CFC 176 times over 2 days to get a transfer number for a private sale. I don't think Trudeau hired any extra staff for all the reference numbers on both handgun and new registry transfers. Probably hoping to give us as much frustrations as possible. What a garbage system!!

I don't think the precious leader concerns himself with such things as appropriate citizen services. On a positive note, a CFO employee I spoke to about a non registered transfer suggested I call between 4 and 5 pm BC time to start my restricted transfer. Called in yesterday and got through after 4 tries and got my transfer started. Pretty easy. He said business was slowing down a lot compared to last week.

Well yeah. There's nothing left on the shelves.

Has anyone gone the mail route for a transfer? I'm curious if it will actually work and how long would it take to go through? Calling and never getting anywhere is too frustrating.

Ontario based private transfer out come:
Had been trying to initiate a private transfer since May 27th afternoon....busy or disconnected (not unusual in ON). Started calling Mon morning May 30th to June 8th (some 250 calls at 1-4-2 & 1-1-2502 with 6 calls to 1-6-1) with no luck. June 8th morning called 1-6-1 asking about the RCMP-5492e paper transfer as an alternative.....at that point the very kind lady proceeded to initiate the restricted transfer transfer (yea!!). Took until June 14th for my brother (getting this transfer) to successfully complete the transfer. He ended having to also use the 1-6-1 line (7 calls) after 65+ attempts with 1-1-2502 line. Seems like most successful transfers have been with 1-6-1 and a person qualified for restricted transfers. 1-6-1 is still the method for best results. Above all be courteous....I could sense she was as frustrated as we were with this situation. Best of luck....I know how you feel....

Time to buy a lotto ticket.
After 13 days and I've lost track of the number of calls, I finally got through using 1-4-2 to initiate a transfer.

So last week I painstakingly filled out the form to send it in to transfer my handguns to my daughter, decided to try and the phone first , started around noon (Ontario) finally got on hold to get a message at 5pm their closed for the day , frustrated decided to download a second phone number app , got a Vancouver # tried calling again , after 30 min on hold got through, almost got finished (10 out of 14) my phone went dead, called back and got the “can’t take your call” tried the 1-6-1 line , first person just transferred me , it went nowhere, tried again and got a nice guy that completed my transfer, luckily my daughter was sitting across the table so her part got done,

So I guess it can be done

Does anyone know where the Ontario CFO is at with transfers? I’m assuming they haven’t even started processing anything that went in post ban announcement but I’m wondering if they’re close

I’ve been waiting for approval since May 19 on several transfers. It’s getting a little ridiculous. I have 18 transfers in total waiting for approval, sone are dealer purchases and some are private but that doesn’t seem to make a difference.

I agree, that wait time is ridiculous. IMHO 30 days is PLENTY of time for them to get a transfer done, and arguably TOO long a time.

I have 5 handguns in the pipe from 4 businesses & I am starting to think complaints to the ONTerrible Ombudsman is the way to go starting at 30 days out from the start of the process...

The fact that they have created this situation, isn't our problem...
