Handgun Transfer

So I’m planning on calling the CFO and hitting 1-6-1. Are you guys doing this AFTER you have received your Transfer Ref # from your LGS? What are you asking them to do, complete the transfer and email you the (1) Transfer Notification or the (2) Registration Certificate?

If you bought from a gun store you don't need to call. They will have started the transfer.

The reference number is for the transaction.

Next you will get an email from the CFO with the transfer or call from the LGS.

Once you get the gun home, you are then waiting for the registration certificate. That will come in the mail from the RCMP.

If this is your first restricted firearm, you will also get a new PAL with conditions (a piece of paper showing you can go to the range). The new pal will be the same number with .0002 at the end.

This will likely take some time right now. I would not call the CFO for at least a month, they are swamped.

At least you know the transfer has been started.

The phones are probably being tied up by dealers. I don't know the routine but the agents have all the dealers' info so they just need to add the buyer's info. If stats are a factor, more transfers are being done. One poster said that in a 24 hour period the reference numbers jumped by 12354. If they are issued numerically, it hardly seems possible..... I gave up after 2 days on the phone - no luck. I returned the buyer's money and he understood. Hopefully the Senate will shut the Bill down.

Same here in Quebec, tried a few times but the lines kept disconnecting after 5 minutes or so, so I just sent an email with the purchase details of June 1st at Tenda and advised them that I wanted my transfer notice by email. They replied 2 days later on the 3rd confirming they would send it to me by email. Let's see how long it takes.

One would really think that with the increased volume more staff could be allocated to help out, In a business sense this would be increasing customer service. I am not sure the process for gun retailers but it does seem the system is not working or intentially so.
On an order from Brownells this year it took three full months to clear customs, all items from springs to screws if gun related have to be individually checked by the CBSA, for myself this has become a very frustrating sport in all aspects, which would seem to be by design.

Which address did you send it to? Did you get a reference number?

Their stores are open as regular today after dealing with transfers for these couple days. My plan is to call in and confirm as well since I ordered June 2nd and haven’t heard back yet - still processing

Yes, I got the reference number from Tenda the next day and I included it in the subject line of my email to "bcaf.qc@cfp-pcaf.ca" I know that here in Quebec for the past 6 months the reply for transfers was about 1 week max......I also know they are under staffed....so I guess this might take a little longer.

The final approval comes from the CFO in the province you reside, if you were a resident of Ontario chances are good you would still be waiting.

Ordered online June 1st from an Ontario shop. Alberta CFO received transfer request on the 2nd. Transfer processed yesterday on the 6th.

Same issue . I`m in Yukon multiple calls multiple days . What are we to do . ??? How can this even be alowed to happen ? Where are the gun law lobyist ?

I've stopped calling for now, I waisted too many days being a zombie punching buttons on the phone. I found the RCMP 5492 form online and mailed in my transfers. Had both parties fill out their portions, and called it a day. Hopefully they have staff to process them, and hopefully if they don't get to it before a potential "freeze", the date is proof to allow the transfers to be completed.

This might be an option for you too, as the phone is impossible to get through.

I doubt the CFOs were even told this was coming... it's probably peak vacation time for most of them.

Solid advice - but I only found form 5624. Are they the same or can you link please for the pdf? Thank you
