Handgun Transfer

Just received my transfer notification today from AB CFO. They received the transfer June 2nd and completed June 8th.

I’m in Manitoba, called 52 times today and won’t even connect to be placed on hold. Just straight to the standard “high volume” pre recording and disconnect. I called a different department and a lady transferred me through to be placed on hold finally. I was prepared to wait as long as it would take but nope, 18 minutes and then called dropped. 3 days and 150+ calls with no luck.

I posted this on another thread

Just an update, got through using 1-6-1……twice. Completed 2 transfers within 45 mins.

Just be patient and be respectful. If they turn you down, wait to be transferred, hang up and try again.

I used the 1-800-731-4000,1,,,,,,6,1 sequence and it worked like a charm.

Spoke with 9 operators and 2 were able to help. I was able to conference call on both transfers.

There’s still hope guys!

It seems 1-6-1 is the only way a transfer will be completed. I’m 0-3 so far but will definitely keep trying to get both my transfers completed so they can be shipped. If anyone is still going to try the 1-4-2 option for the restricted transfer line (although beyond frustrating) you can speed it up with 1-1 extension 2502 which is the restricted transfer department. I’ve given up on that route and will just be going the 1-6-1 route until someone agrees to transfer.

Good luck everyone !!

Québec just impossible to have thé line!!! Flush every 4-5 minute

Hi Patrick313, I wrote to them because the line would hang up every 5 minutes....they do this on purpose not to overload the lines. CFO Quebec told me they were getting 300 to 400 transfer requests a day. I bought mine on the first of June and reference number went in on the second of June from Tenda Ontario for 1 handgun.....they replied this to me yesterday...so I figure It should take about a week or so. I'll keep you guys posted

Everyone can chill a bit... The transfers are going through, but each transfer takes the time it takes. Instead of an office getting 80 transfers a day they are getting 500, so there is a backlog. Calling the CFO every 2 minutes isn't going to speed it up. Sucks for those trying to initiate private transfers, but thats reality. BC is doing transfers today (Thurs June 9) for requests received June 1 and 2 (and on friday will still be doing June 2). Remember the dealer doesn't get the paperwork in to them the instant you bought the gun, it takes them a few days sometimes, since they aren't staffed up for this surge, either. The system is working as best it can after an unexpected shock, try your best to not call asking where your transfer is in the queue, if you do need to call in for something, be polite and thank them for their efforts. They don't make the rules and are (generally) trying to survive this govt idiocy like the rest of us....

I'm still waiting on a May 31 transfer in BC (retailer) so your numbers may not be completely accurate.

Are you sure the dealer put all the info in correctly right away? I know of about a dozen requests in the system that have clicked through like clockwork (in the order which they actually got submitted to the system, not the order they were bought). One eastern dealer was a few days behind in submission, and it ran thru in the order (so took 9 days from purchase, not 6 like the others). The other hiccup can be if there is an error in the submitted documents (someone typing Roy instead or Ray...) That can flag it up for extra/other considerations. When did the seller actually get it in the transfer queue?

When bought from a online retailer, should i be able to check the status when logged in the rcmp website under “Registration Application Status Results”. Or i should get something by email or only the online retailer will know and ship it when it is good to go.

The govt sends you an email stating the transfer has gone thru (with the supporting documents to use until the permanent one arrives). And hopefully a 0002 pal card.

I just got off the phone with the information line, I asked about faxing the 5492 form into the 6138250297 fax line, she said that she didn't know where that number went and since there isn't a fax number listed on the information sheet your options are the phone line 18007314000, 1 1 ext2502 or 1 4 2, or put it in the mail. I had faxed 5492 in on Monday June 6, as of today(June 9) nothing has appeared on the online portal for transfers (not sure if it does when you transfer privately as this is my first restricted and first time using this system).
Bottom line is that faxing is not a back door in.

how can you tell what date they received the transfer? does it say once you get the transfer?

Once you receive the transfer notification from your provincial CFO, it’ll say date received at the top right box. I order on June 1st, so the following day they received it and turnaround was 6 days. Just posting for timeline purposes so peeps get a feel of the wait period.
