MN triggers can be tuned to be both light AND crisp. The action does cycle/feed very well but the bolt is a bit clumsy. I like the bent long bolt seen on sniper versions.
Dies would also be a cost as the base of the 54R is way bigger so doesn't allow for use of conventional Mauser diameter dies. Lee collet dies could be made for a reasonable cost - see Lee website.
Otherwise, why not?
I like the idea of going with a true 308 cal better. I am sure that there are 30cal surplus barrels around for reasonable costs. I wouldn't expect either to shoot all that well as machine gun pipes are not noted for their accuracy - just the opposite.
Keep us up to date with your progress.
Although very dull and boring, a rebarreled Savage would be straightforward to do and alot less money in the long run.

The longest recorded kill with a .50 BMG mounting a telescopic sight. Hathcock was one of several individuals to utilize the Browning .50 caliber heavy machine gun in the sniping role. This success has led to the adoption of the .50 caliber cartridge as a viable anti-personnel and anti-equipment sniper round.

Well I purchased 2 barrels but they will become 8X63 swede
and screwed to Mauser actions
I have a Mosin here but they seem like a waste of time to me
Anybody want to buy a cheap m44![]()
Bastards! Was it done so that they did not qualify as 'machine-gun parts'?
As for feeding issues and staff - I am not proposing to use 8mm mauser round in a Mosin. I want to wildcat Mosin round for 8mm bullet.
Yeah, there was a TON of that ammo around somewhere, wasn't there. .. ...
