has anyone tried instaling one of the Magwedge quick rails on a VZ58?

I know I've mentioned it once before but I sincerely believe there should be no flat area on the underside of the rail along side the extraction/ejection zone. I really think it would improve deflection to have the cut straight across and would lessen the chances of shells being caught by the bolt carrier. At least worth the experiment.

The height of the rail over the port might also be a factor.

Well, I am not sure what you mean by "flat" ... the entire ejection area of the rail sits at an angle, there is no "flat" as in horizontal part. I am assuming that you don't mean the rail should be curved or bumpy, LOL.
Bear in mind that I have built at least two other prototypes and tested them as well. The current model has far fewer issues than those did.
There may be variations in individual rifles at work here, for which I can do very little.

As to height of the rail, higher might allow easier ejection, but its also quite undesirable from a shooting point of view.

So I did have some time today to quickly test out the rail. The positioning of the optic mount claws on the rail really does affect the how well the brass ejects and clears the ejection port. If the optic mount claw is within 1 or 2 rail spaces of the sharp corner that people were reporting wear from ejecting brass, the brass will not be thrown clear.

But otherwise it was functioning for you?

why would 1/8" higher be undesirable from a shooting point of view ? it might fix most of the problems .

I already have guys that complain about the current rail being too high, LOL. It's all about the cheek weld ...

Then you have guys that want to be able to use the front sight, which I also find desirable.

I have another prototype to test in the meanwhile. If this one isn't acceptable I will go a different direction entirely.

I have to say I am impressed with your commitment to your product and your customers. If I decide to add a rail to my SKS, it will be one of yours.

Keep getting the same thing with my rails. Keep testing it out and let's us know who it goes magwedge!!!!

If you want someone else to run it thru it's paces I'll be glad to help out.

This is ridiculous. My rifle seems to be camera shy.. we took 3 videos today. The first was fired from the hip due to camera height to get a close up on ejection. No FTE. Fired from the shoulder with the camera off.. 1/5 FTE. Got two more videos after with 0 FTE. Seems like it's starting to wear in.. out of 80 rounds, I saw about 4 FTE. All were a naked rail and no velcro. Didn't have time to make the deflector as per our earlier conversation, Dave.. I'll take some separate pictures of the wear after we are done on the farm. It's not as bad as I thought, but I'd still like to add something for long term use. I did notice 1 or 2 escape out at 10 o'clock, but didn't result in a FTE. I'm really curious what might have changed since yesterday..

LOL, fussy little beasts aren't they?

Was the first shoot from a bench by any chance and the second all free standing?

All standing. I did notice I had a couple gobs of glue from the velcro left when I first started shooting. Due to yesterdays frozen/blizzard conditions, the only plausible reason I can think was that they frozen hard and were deterring casings. If the weather keeps nice, I'll head back out this week to play with optics. I'm very interested in your new design when it becomes public.. I've spent the day considering the purchase of a new VZ for it. Very cool concept - can't wait to see pictures.

Just out of curiosity, are kwik pins solid? I'd like to shorten mine slightly to remove the slop, and changing the ring to something that looks more natural to the rifle.
