Heavy barrel bolt action 22lr

Well. The price of the bv is probably higher then the mark 2 fv?

If I go mark 2 fv it leaves more money for a scope. Either im buying a good scope for my 308 and use my actual 308 scope for the new mark 2 or im buying the cz and use a cheap scope on it...

Looking at the models you guys suggested. Does anyone know where in Canada we can buy the CZ 455 varmint in 22lr? Most seem to be either out of stock or in another caliber... Really like the look of this rifle and the quality does look to be better then the savage mark 2 fv

I would agree the machining quality on the CZ is probably better than the Savage. But, I have not seen it translated into better accuracy. One advantage of the Savage is the AccuTrigger. It is safe and can be tuned down to less than 1 lb pull. Here is how I did it on my BTVS. Now this was for a model made 8 years ago, and I understand Savage has now moved to the E model which has some changes. The procedure may have to be tweaked a little. Not sure what you can do with a CZ trigger.

Here is a target shot indoors at 40 yards (range max). The top number is outside to outside actual. The bottom number is center to center adjusted to estimate 50 yards. Lapua Master is roughly equivalent to what is sold as Lapua Center-X today.

Wolverine supplies has CZ 455's in 22lr in stock. The Lux looks really nice.
The Savage Mk II FV-SR is available at Whole Sale Sports and has the shorter 16.5" barrel and mounting rail, it might be an option.
Keep your eyes open, I know Wholesale has some pretty good deals on sometimes. I picked up a MK II BV last month for under $300.
Nice groupings Ron AKA! What scope?

The trigger on the E receiver Savages can be lightened with the Apachee trigger kit, which goes for about $60 or so USD. The CZ trigger can be lightened with a simple trigger spring swap. There is a kit available by Yodave for about $18 USD, or a LHS spring can do the trick.

the heavy barrel version looks great. It would have the 10 rounds capacity! But not available here I think

thats not a bull barrel.
while it looks big i think its just a normal barrel without sights on it.
ruger usually makes a point of saying when their barrels are bull cause they can charge ya extra.
both are itemized as the same:

Cold hammer-forged barrel results in ultra-precise rifling that provides exceptional accuracy, longevity and easy cleaning.

when they have a bull barrel ruger says this in the write up:

Heavy, cold hammer-forged barrel with recessed target crown and spiral design.

normal and the one you say is bull

for interest sake lets put the bull barrel 10/22 up beside that RAR

Makes sense!

Fit and finish. I often think this is over rated BUT i just stoped by the store here and had a look at their savage mark 2 fv...

The stock looked like a 3d printed stock. Cheap feeling. Rough and badly finished

The barrel was super matte. Rough and had small spots on it. Perhaps factory oil spots?

The bolt handle was matte withba few polished spots. Is that normal? The rifle looked like it was used for 5 years. Very badly finished. Im disapointed but good thing i could see it before buying

So my question is. Is the cz 455 much better finished then the savage mark 2 fv?

i picked up a CZ452 this summer and its a thing of beauty.
while ive got nothing against Savage i think the CZ are a step up from them.
just what ive seen fit and finish and wood wise.

Boyd stock with the exchange rate and shipping your looking around $269.42 give or take a bit.

that is what mine cost me this year to my door.

Remington 597 HB semi-auto. Reliable, accurate. 10 shot double stack magazine. No sight so you can add what every you prefer. Cabelas Canada carries them and a few come up on CGN. Not expensive is a bonus.

The biggest problem with the savage fvsr is the stock is very thin on the front and doesn't ride the bags at all. Last weekend I was helping a young guy improve his shooting with his fvsr. I gave him some Aguila sv and sk std plus as all he has was junk. After improvement I tried his set up and I had to hold the front of the stock in my rock rest jammed with rags to hold it steady. I did manage a couple .6" group's. My Savage bv with the laminate stock was much better in the bags. You could fab up a plate and mount it to the front of the stock.

Are the boyds stock ready to.accept the factory mag? I read some stuff regarding a bottom metal kit when changing the factory stock...

I guess the boyd stock would solve the issue of the crappy stock on the mark 2 fv.

You might want to keep an eye on EE to see if anyone has taken the stock off a BV or thumbhole version of the Mark II, and wants to sell it. They should be pillar bedded, but once they are, you can torque the action screws down to get good accuracy.

from what i understand Boyd's only sells stocks they do not sell or send with their stocks any hardware that you may need.

that was my experience with the 10 or so stocks i have gotten from them over the years in different configurations.
