Heckler and Koch - how do you pronounce it?

This has been beaten to death in a previous post, but again, dependant on what kind of German in particular you speak, it sound very similar to "Coke"... as in the beverage product.... except with a little throat-clenching squeeze on the last h....Kind of like you're just thinking about hoarking up a lugie, but haven't actually started yet.

So, yes, for the more or less "American" English that we speak, it would be Heck-ler and Coke.

Or so I am led to believe.

I have been led down the Garden Path once or twice before in my life, but I do not belive this is the case in this instance.

Yep, I read same thing a while back... "Heckler and Coke" ;)

It's great being the #### who says "...uh... it's actually Coke" immediately after someone says "Kosh".

yeah, it is ponounced "coke". I have called HK USA , and that is what the automated phone message states.
 
Actually! Being from a German background and knowing how to speak it just a wee tad, :mrgreen: , this is the best way to show how it is pronounced, Heckler & Koch. As much as I hate to use the word, take #### add the H between the o and the c and as you say COH, try not to prononce the ck, byut more like a choke at the end. That is it! :lol:
 
Not to hijack...but this reminds me of a funny story...
When Diamler bought out Chrysler, the American executives did not know how to properly pronounce Diamler so when the big meeting came between the German and American execs one of the Yanks asked one of the Huns the proper pronunciation to which he replied "I am not sure how you pronounce it here in the US, but in Germany, the Chrysler is silent." :lol:
 
Some darned good attempts to explain the pronunciation there! The problem is, of course, that the German language includes several sounds that we just don't make in English -- making it impossible for us to write it the way it is properly pronounced. I finally figured this out after going through this exact exercise and the pronunciation of Oswald Boelcke (an important ace in the Great War) with a German. We just don't make those sounds!
