The S&W feels like a toy to me. It is just soo light and plastic feeling. Probably because its all plastic. LOL. Anyways I would go with the Ruger myself.
+1 I felt the same way. I handled all 3 at one time and liked Ruger the best. But I already have a basic Rem. 597 (great value!) so won't be getting one just yet with a real AR on a way ;)

not nearly as fast with 30 rounds though......... I already have the target rifle domain covered. I need to spice up the fun side of my vault.

I definitely like my S&W MP15-22. It's cheaper than a dedicated .22LR upper, and I happen to like the fact it's almost entirely polymer because it makes it incredibly lightweight (factory weight is about 4.5lbs once you remove the BUIS). It functions identical to an AR-15 and includes the quad rail (on others you need to buy the rails/mounting kits separately). You can also completely disassemble it, which makes cleaning a breeze. The 30-round magazines are pretty slick, too. The only drawback is the restricted status, but if you're looking for "fun" this is certainly a hot little rifle!

I'm sure they all have there pros and cons, the main thing is these rifles are fun to shoot! Reliability, and magazines are a huge issue. So I bought the SR22, so far 1300 rounds no cleaning yet and I have had about 20 feeding issues with one of my 25round BC steel lips.

get the ruger, I do own a VTR, and like it very much (I have no complaints so far), only 1650 rounds through it. I have heard that the ruger it easier to strip and clean, plus its non-rest, so you can plink outside of the range.

Easy answer to the original question. The SR-22 by a huge margin. Non-restricted, and available high-quality, high-capacity magazines which in a rifle like this is a must. Neither of the competitors can offer this combination.

lol of course you say sr-22, your name is rugerfan....

most people touched on this already: 1st decide if you are ok with restricted (seems like you are), but if not that eliminates the M&P 15-22.

the sr-22 is the same mechanism as a regular 10/22, just dressed up as an tacticool AR, so really like someone suggested, you can get the target 10/22 and be a bit more accurate.
on the +, it feels solid, has 10/22 reliability and accessories

havent touched or seen the remington, some love them some hate them and say reliability isnt the greatest.

the M&P 15-22, is most like an AR in looks and function (charging handle, bolt catch, mags of similar size, breakdown, etc) so it would be best as a trainer or alternate to a real AR and cheaper to shoot and is a fun plinker, so for those reasons I bought the M&P 15-22, but of course your needs might be different.....

I ordered the VTR first and then the SR22, still waiting for them to arrive. I don`t like the idea having to triggerlock and lock a .22 in a case, so the S&W is a big NO.

I just purchased the S&W 15-22. I have Ruger 10-22 target and I have a friend that has the VTR. VTR has feeding issues, my 10-22 is great but I was looking for tactical as you said and the S&W 15-22 is as close to the AR as you can get unless you spend almost 3 times the money for a real didicated 22 AR. So my vote would be the S&W 15-22 all AR accessaries will also fit it so if you like to dress it up sky is the limit. Stark

I was about to buy one when I found this beauty. Its a Ruger 10/22 Target Tactical. Same price as the SR22, and alot more accurate. I love this gun. Comes with a bipod, and rail, hogue overmolded stock, and 16 inch bull barrel.

thats a nice .22! my rem 700 in .308 came with that stock on it and im quite impressed by it, despite the iffy reviews on it.. you can check mine out on my youtube page, just installed a new cheek rest on it here is the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2EM9HfSZ84

I actually had the opertunity this past weekend to shoot all 3 of these rifles in one sitting. 3 different fellas all bought their newest aquisitions to the range for a bit of fun, and I happen to know them all pretty good so it was no trouble to convince them all to let me try a mag or 2 (actually 4 or 5:))

I have several 10/22's already, and I have owned a 597 so they were what they are... No real change, just cosmetics.

Much to my surprise, the S&W was much more accurate than I expected. I was expecting to see 3 to 4 inch groups at 50y, it was more like 3/4 to 2" depenging on ammo. It's lighter, easier to shoulder, it's easy to add or remove bolt on optics etc, (anythign AR will bolt on) and the most accurate of the 3 you have listed.

My vote went to the S&W, that's the only one from your list that is on my 'radar' at this particular moment in time.

Cheers!

I have a 597 and it can be very finicky about ammo and mags, but i've never had anything break on mine....... as much as i hate to say it though, I'd vote for the 10-22 in a second. much more upgrades/parts, mags have little to no issues.

++++++ 1 for me! i just picked up my m&p15-22 and i absolutely love it!! it is a breeze to clean and operate esspecially since i am in the military and am used to the c-7/m16 style weapons. love it and plan on keeping it for a long time to come! cheers

must be a very sensitive virus program, im running firefox with "no-scrip" popup and script blocker add-on and have no problems

I say no to the Remington because of quality issues, and give the edge to Ruger because its not restricted and has great aftermarket support. But for a cool range only toy, the S&W would be nice.

I like reading, I read about how much people who have one love it

Besides, its more like a $600-700 problem after taxes and extra mags
