Help picking an AR - Bushmaster or Colt

I dont think a Colt is a much better rifle ( AR10) than a Bushmaster especially at 2.5 times the price (2350.00 vs 999.00... This is getting close to LMT and KAC territory)... I will take my chances with a 999.00 XM-10 Bush... JP.

I'm inclined to agree with above statement. Aimpoint Pro is a good starting optic, but a T1 or H1 is where i would start. if you feel you need magnification, run your rifle for a few months on iron sights (never hurts to get good with them) then i would go with a SpectreDR. I loved my LE6920 with a SpectreDR, great glass and built to last. If you intend on keeping your rifle "old school" m4, any decent 2 point sling should do it. I can't remember if the Magpul edition comes with quick release or not, probably should i think. Im not a big fan of the UTG bipod, a good light weight foregrip and a sand bag is the way to go.

just my opinion, but as a fellow Tavor owner i like to keep my muzzle end of my AR's as light as possible.

I agree with PBR as always solid advice.

Just keep the T1 micro and combine with an eotech g33 magnifier, voila problem solved.

i just ordered mine from p and d in Edmonton( 6920 mp-fde magpul instock), I don't mind paying a little more then irunguns, as I hear bad comunication skills from that group are a problem and I know that p and d takes care of their customers. plus I should have it this week( i hope because it is hard to sleep and walk with the perma chub I have now)

That may be true, but for the same or similar money you can buy a properly built to spec rifle, so why short change yourself with a Bushmaster??

Depends on the Bushmaster you buy, some are made to quality specs I have found.

What was your final price CAD all in? I have actually had really good communication with Jason and Steve, but I've heard those same stories. I just bought a used XPS2-0 from EE to put on, and now I am trying to get feedback on a 3x or 5x magnifier for around $200 then buy a flip mount. Tell me what you are going for optics on it.

People are egging on Bushmaster, but the fact is that Remington, under Freedom Group, won a 50,000 unit contract in Philippine against Colt and FN just a year ago. They also won a smaller multi year 24K unit contract to supply the US army back in 2012. Not saying that Bushmaster's commercial offering is "mil spec" blah blah blah, but bushmaster/Remington these days certainly has the capability and know-how of producing military grade M4 type carbine.

IMO the only people who aren't producing military-grade ARs these days are people who just don't care.

Not that there aren't lots of people who match that description, but at this stage of the game, the information required to manufacture a quality AR is so readily available and well understood, if you #### it up, then I think your customers have the right to draw some pretty unflattering conclusions.

That's nice, some are made to quality specs(not mil spec). All of the DD, LMT, Colt, CC, BCM guns are made to MIL SPEC. I wonder which brand I would choose that will have the highest chance of offering a quality product????

website price was 1399.99 plus insured shipping 1535.00 all in, I didn't quibble over the price or try for a discount. I haven't had any personnel exp with irunguns, but i wanted to shoot before the snow is past my boots so I kept it with a good company I have always had great exp with.(im gonna try irun for a 9mm sw revolver once my wife calms down LOL)

As for optics I'm trying to sell 2 recently purchased pistols on the EE right now (jericho 9mm range kit/ P250 sig/xtra mag) and depending on what I get for them will determine the quality of optics i purchase. It will probably be a 30mm 1-4 power or maybe a red dot and magnifier. Hopefully someone will want to trade both for a quality optic(fingers crossed) have a good one guys

Buy all 7 base models and run 20,000 rds through them with proper cleaning and lube and then run a Bushmaster, and you will see if the price difference is worth it for 90% of shooters out there.

Run it in the mud, drag it a little with in reason, drop it a few times and record the data.

Who is going to do that? I doubt anyone will.

on 20 to 30 rd mags fired within reason it will be interesting to see how long the Bushy lasts...

I know the OP bought a Colt and that's a fine choice for a first AR, but having owned both I haven't really noticed any appreciable difference between them (other than the twist rates were different 1:7 for the Colt and 1:9 for the Bushy). Mind you, my Bushy was a pre-Freedom Group one. As it stands now, I sold off the Bushy as I got more into putting my own AR's together. I still have the Colt, but it sits mostly in the back of the safe. I have other AR's that are far better than either of them.

I used to have an agency pre-owned bushmaster that likely had well over 20,000rds through it, it held up as well as any of my other ar-15's. It was beat to hell and still ran great.
