Helped to nab a poacher today

Yes, it's a straw man, I'm trying to make a complex point in a very simple way.
You are using a straw-man argument.

No federal minimums would apply for "confusion" over the new ATT rules. If you are following the rules and do happen to be arrested due to some confusion you would still need to go to court, be convicted, and then have the sentence applied. If you were following the rules you would most likely not be charged, and even if you were, upon review of the case by the crown they'd have to proceed with the charges, and even if they did they'd need to PROVE it infront of a judge/jury.

Sorry, I mean no disrespect in my comment about them being Asian, but our small town has almost no Asians in it, and the usual poachers around these parts seem to be Asians from other parts of the province, or natives, who are equally as bad for it around here. My comment was meant they were on ####ty logging roads in a Toyota sienna going to load up a 1000lb elk into the back of it, lol
the same reason as white poachers in Africa make the news all the time, because they stand out.

Asian guys poaching, go on! I never would believe that.....

Good on you and your crew. I owe you some beers for sure

lol, because a white man has never poached ever.

rofl

To the OP, good on you for catching them. It sucks that the meat was not suitable for human consumption, however take solace in the fact that nature doesnt waste. Back into the food chain it will go.

Well as a former CO [now retired] kudos for stepping up and helping "us" out. As you know we have vast areas to cover and without the cooperation of concerned citizens these types of apprehensions would not be possible.

I still miss the enjoyable days as a field officer but don't miss the latter years as an administrator!!

Job well done guys and nice to hear the support and concern that is out there from legitimate hunters.

good work!
I cant stand people that pull that crap
357 should get someone locked up

I don't know of any Canadian wilderness ATC that would allow a person to have a loaded handgun in a vehicle.
I've done it legally stateside with a CCW permit but definitely a no-no in Canada.
When bow hunting in PA I legally carried a S+W model 629 in a belt holster to administer the coup de grace if need be and never needed to.
I had a PA LTCF (CCW permit) at the time.
That revolver will get these guys an involuntary invite from a judge to be a guest of the crown for a while.

Can't do the Time?
Dont do the Crime !
What is the context for carrying (allegedly) a loaded .357 Revolver in ones glove box after being in or near the location of an illegally shot (center fire rifle) Bull Elk in a Bow Only Zone?
jdman, when the story hits the media would you please post the link.
Rob

Hope they don't try a "c42" defence.
"Duuuuh, I thought that new bill c42 allowed us to carry a handgun with no paper authorization".
If they do I hope the judge tacks on another year for insulting his intelligence.

Good use of the meat but joking aside i dont mind if the meat is eaten
My problem is when they just cut the head off and leave the carcass to spoil

There are a few in the economically depressed areas of northern Ontario who thru job loss and other circumstances beyond their control have had to resort to living off the land.
One chap I know personally lives in a log cabin way back in the sticks and harvests the odd deer or moose to keep body and soul together over the long winters.
This guy uses every scrap of meat and is definitely not a trophy hunter and doesn't sell the meat.
I would turn a blind eye to this kind of subsistence poaching.
The right to live off the land when there is no other choice should not depend on the race or ethnic background of the person but on the real life circumstances of the person.

agreed. It kind of angers me the whole native rights issue in Canada, when almost every family that has been in Canada for generations now has native blood.

Thanks Bb and Jdman for posting the follow up information.
Should be calling CHEK later today and asking them if someone who goes to the bank to withdraw money that is not there as a customer
or a bank robber !?
Silly Media ####s !
