High power scopes?

You're really trying hard to show your superiority here, why?

This was taken on 24x after a day of busting my ass for miles. Showing that everyone doesn't have to fit in to your weird little boxes.

???

I don't trophy hunt so I don't really care about the aesthetics.

I mearly said I prefer to shoot short range.

If your into true long range hunting than I understand a big scope. The rifle is probably at that point a dedicated long range rig. What gets me is guys buying one of the lightest weight factory hunting rifles (t3 or x bolt for example) and sitting a vortex 6 to 20x50 on top. And then not having the confidence to shoot at a deer past 200 yards. Yes I have helped set up rookies with money rifles that were like that. I placed targets at 3, 4, and 500 yards and there jaw drops when they realise what 400 yards actually looks like. I have no issues with 400 to 600 yard shots with a good 3 to 9 and a good bdc that I've had lots of practice with. Never shot a deer past 350. Never got the chance either. Like I said earlier where I hunt getting a shooting position where I can use my bipod is tough. That's about the only way it feel I'm steady enough to take a shot past 300 yards. Leaning on a tree just don't cut it

I'm curious how it holds up on that 375. Chinese scopes and recoil don't seem to get along... I just killed a 4.5-14x44 Legend on a 7mm mag Vanguard which isn't a heavy recoil gun.

I have an elite 2-7x32 on my 458 wm. I had my ultra hd 3-9x50 on it just to see how it would do at 300 yards. 40 shots into a 6" group at 300 plus another 5 to zero it at 100 and 5 shots at 200 yards. No issue. I put the ultra hd back on my 300wm an the elite back on my458 and re sighted both in.
Only issue was my arm was getting pretty slow moving. All shots were prone over bags. My slowed arm opened my group up but I proved my 458 wm was a 300 yard moose gun. 400 gr pp woodlieghs at 2450 fps mv

I love getting in close. I'd prefer the animal be within 20 yards. Of the 54 deer I've killed I'd bet about half were under 10 yards. Mind you I bow hunt mostly with a chance for muzzleloader if I don't fill my tag early. I have a 3-9x40 on my muzzleloaders that have optics. For southern Ontario it works just fine.
I'd love to go back to iron sights but not so good eye sight requires me to use optics. I can see well enough to id game but don't have the sharpness to make out antlers unless they are a shooter buck. Deers ears can hide spikes and 3" or less is an antlerless tag. I've used 9 power and passed up small spikes because I couldn't guarantee it would be an antlerless deer back when I could get additional antlerless tags
I'm currently searching for a couple short range calibers for the sole purpose of hunting close with irons like the 25/20 where I know I won't be taking a shot more than 50 yards
On the other hand I also hunt open fields where high magnification can definitely help determine whether a dog is a coyote or some farmers mut at 500 yards
I also like to challenge myself shooting at crows across fields when safe to do so. A 3-9scope generally covers a crow at 6-700 with the cross hairs. My 6-24 I can zoom in far enough to still see the crow
I'm not against sitting in a blind. I personally can't sit still to long and slowly move from tree to tree or fence post to fence post. I hunt from tree stands to get over under growth but I prefer hunting from the ground
I prefer to get as close as I can but with the right rifle setup I'm not against taking a long shot if I think I can make it

Ppl hunt in different ways for different reasons. As long as it's ethical and for the most part legal I won't judge

And as to the guy who posted those pics of standing over those rolling hills ...ya I'm jealous. I've yet to make it westward. Thanks for reminding me how flat southern Ontario is lol

That's reassuring. I fired quite a few 375 rounds and it holds zero just fine. But then all scopes work great right up until that shot that breaks it. Tally ho! :p

pretty sure in BC we are legally required to have identified it as a legal to shoot animal before you raise the rifle and look through your scope.

You would be right. But its a law that's followed much like the speed limit. I sure as hell wouldn't use my rifle to glass a clear cut or hill side but to quickly count the points or identify a spiker when you're already laying down prone I say go for it. Shooting for the head is a lot worse of a practice than using your scope to count points.

Well, if you leave the action open, you can use your rifle scope to glass a clear cut.
My next buy is zeiss hd5 5x25-50 or something with a higher power.

I like this logic...

Similar to the difference in two-wheel and four-wheel drive. Four-wheel drive will get you stuck further in...

The best advice i was ever given about driving off road was to keep it in 2 wheel drive till you get stuck, then try and get out in 4 wheel drive and you will likely be ok. If you start off in 4 wheel and get stuck you are screwed.

The scopes that worked well for me when I was 20 don't work as well for me now.

The magnification isn't necessarily more important than the fit and clarity. With my 20 year old eyes the weaver K4-1 was brilliant and I could see clearly and shot w-a-a-y out there more than a few times. I found that old scope in a box I hadn't opened in 30 years and threw it on a 30-06 to take to the range for fun, and was shocked at how bad the optic quality was. It was usable but my eyes aren't as elastic as they once were and I suppose I'm spoiled to boot. It did remind me of how much I like good quality optics.

I buy a rifle to fit a certain typography and type of hunting. Then the scope is selected to match the rifle. So the scope varies. I like a 2-7x or a 3-9x, generally on most big game rifles, but idon't see an issue with more power. I used a fixed 4 power for years and I don't think a 4-12X scope would be any less usable.

Don't take this one too literally, 4 low exists for a reason...

You cant make it to my hunting cabin in 2WD :) Its 4wd all the way :)

You must not drive a jeep, lol.

My wife had one, its a great girls ride but it handles like crap, Cold AF in the winter, Slow AF on the highway. Ill stick to my Truck.
