A new state of the art indoor range opened up close to home, Im stuck between 2 non restricted rifles. Robinson Arms XCR .223 vs a Tavor 21 also in .223, around the same price range if you want a fancy XCR. But hands down for accuracy, function, warranty, reliability?

I would go with the Tavor no question; your getting a next level battle proven bullpup platform in non-restricted. I find this platform incredibly fun to shoot, and to be well and above the finest bullpup deign yet fielded; and I generally hate bullpups.

I like the XCR/SCAR, but to me it just has that AR feel, which is not bad, but not exciting. IMO, its only real appeal over a high end AR is the non-restricted classification.

For hunting, Xcr wins. With the available calibre conversions, you can reach and touch most big game in north america... and in 2 minutes, change back to your .223/5.56 for some target shooting.

Although... one could argue that the cost of a calibre conversion kit ($700) is the same as a quality devoted hunting rifle.

I would suggest shouldering both and seeing which platform is most comfortable to you. I found when holding the tavor, I felt a little squished (I'm relatively taller than average? 6+ ft) ... mind you, I still want a tavor.. but it will get it later, I'm too busy with my new Xcr right now.... also there are a million more threads like this one, asking the same question. Lots of good info in them, check it out.

Accuracy-XCR
Function-XCR, way more user friendly IMO especially if you are used to tradition rifle, read not bullpup
Warranty-Unsure?? Tavor's are pretty damn tough probably wont need warranty work, RA puts out the odd lemon you may need warranty work
Reliability-Tavor

both great choices but in 5.56 i choose the tavor! the XCR is great in x39 and x51.
have a couple thousand through my tavor and shes been a dream

Non-restricted true, battle proven? Not true. XCR was designed for SOCOM to compete in the SCAR competition, the Tavor was designed to save Israeli industry, was employed by a small amount of units in the IOF, and is now widely being replaced by the next "next level bullpup". The tavor was never used in any real "battle" is not even widely employed in the the IOF, and is already being replaced.

...and to be well and above the finest bullpup deign yet fielded; and I generally hate bullpups.

You hate bullpups, but you love the Tavor because it's magic, not a bullpup?

I like the XCR/SCAR, but to me it just has that AR feel, which is not bad, but not exciting. IMO, its only real appeal over a high end AR is the non-restricted classification.

What is an AR feel? The XCR uses a Kalashnikov type gas operated action with a long-stroke gas piston attached to the bolt carrier group; or do you mean it looks/feels kinda like an AR lower?

The XCR is multi-caliber. It can make accurate shots at range, be used in a wide variety of roles including hunting etc as you can take it out to play, suited to shouldering on either shoulder, and was designed for use by arguably the most experienced, well trained soldiers on the planet.

The Tavor has rifle length velocity in a carbine length package, and is suited for kicking in doors so long as you don't have to clear from the left of cover much, and for those who are small and weak and the non adjustable ergos work for you.

So if you're kicking in doors, or standing behind the bench making holes in paper at short range, and if fits well the Tavor is better.

If you're looking to do anything else, the XCR is win.

The only reason I can see these two being compared so often is they are both non-restricted for now. Really, on nearly every other level, they are apples and oranges.

It might literally go 'BOOM'

I'm sure it will be another Norinco firearm, work flawless just like their SG's and M14's but the fit and finish will be the same. I'm glad it's coming to us so more nutters can get their hands on a cheap'ish NR bullpup but ill stay with higher quality myself.
