Hip shooting

Oh I'm saying different strokes right, but if I'm gunning over my dog or shooting green heads then exhibition style shooting isn't as useful as shooting sporting clays. Tom tried in a few sporting clay shoots and it's not like he was a bad shot by any means would wipe me across the board but still not as impressive as George dig weed IMO. Exhibition shooters are more well know because it's more flashy and entertaining to watch unless you shoot clays as well.

I think the OP was talking about shooting "gun down" not actually firing from the hip... there is NO WAY he shot 21 firing from the hip... his terminology makes me suspect that he is new to the sport... making it even more unlikely that he accomplished a 21 from the hip.

Reminds me of being at the 100th Grand American in Vandalia, Ohio, they brought in Tom Knapp for an evening event to showcase his trick shooting and promote Benelli of course. Well he started off with a throw vegetables routine by hand, then cans of shave cream and culminated with his 8 for 8 hand thrown clays with a pumpgun and then 9 for 9 with his Benelli Super Black Eagle. I guess it was too much for a couple of guys in the back row of the grandstands, I could hear them jeering and laughing together over the gunfire. They waited for just the right moment and one yells out, "hey that's pretty good man, but what's your average from the 27?!!" Well we, the whole crowd lost it and just busted a gut laughing. Old Tom did not look too impressed but he pressed on continuing to try outdo himself.....

Does anyone hip shoot? I went clay shooting with my son and did ok =got 21 out of 25. The guy who was doing the clays said to me. Your shooting from the hip. He ask me to try aiming. The next 25 shots, I aim- got 17 out of 25. I did better not aiming. ?????

I shot into space once.. then NASA called me.


All jokes aside do you mean you were shooting low gun or were you really firing from the hip?????

I've watched Martin Usher do some interesting stuff on the Skeet field in Grande Prairie. He'll shoot at the high house right handed, then switch to left handed on the low house (on the same pair) and usually score over 20 (sometimes running it). I've also seen him shoot from the hip (yes - literally from the hip). But just shooting from the hip wasn't enough. From the hip he will hit the high house and then flip the gun upside down, still shooting from the hip to hit the low house. Again, not missing any. It takes practice, but if you do it enough, you can learn to acquire the site picture.
