HK MR223 owners have a 416 Barrel Option

Anywhere from 4" at 50m with factory ammo to 7 to 10+" at 100m. Cheap ammo like Norinco would be lucky to get a group if you could keep track of where the rounds went. She definitely likes the heavier bullets like 60g +. The precision ammo made a big difference but I'm not going to bother making precision ammo for this little beast. It's loud, it looks amazing and it can shoot a decent group if you work a load for it I think. I'm going to play with it more. It's up for sale but it's so expensive I can't see it moving anytime soon but then again who knows. I may decide I should keep it.

Try some 77 grain match king loads, lots of commercial offerings or if you roll your own even better. Keep us posted

Dude at 50 meters you should be getting 1 inch groups. That's horrible.. If you can please show some more results with pictures and ammo test. I was considering picking this up for a backup barrel.

I was thinking the reverse, keep the original 416 barrel, and replace it with something like this for range use. Then you have the original barrel that you can replace if you want to sell etc.

While the "groups" aren't particularly good, it's just for range use, no "tip of the spear" ops. Considering the cost of the MR223A3 11" SBR ($3700), it's not a bad option. YMMV

Actually yeah that makes better sense.... I think I would build a second upper though.

Hmm, got my new barrel today, but can't get the original barrel removed from the rifle - I don't have a vise to hold the upper in place, and that sucker's on there TIGHT!!

Yeah they're usually tightened to 50-60 foot pounds....

You absolutely require a bench vice and a proper upper receiver block to do any AR15 barrel change out.

1. Stick something inside of your receiver to keep it from being crushed
2. Place your upper receiver in your refrigerator door
3. Put your weight against the fridge door
4. Unscrew barrel

Well, my barrel conversion kit finally arrived by CANPAR today. I immediately went into "Wile E. Coyote Gunsmithing" mode and performed the barrel swap so that I too, can have "the gun that killed Osama"! The original barrel was a bit of a struggle as the Barrel Nut was very tight. Fortunately I had an Upper Receiver Vice Block on hand, which greatly eased the process. Just a note for those attempting this swap on their own - my original Barrel Extension was very snug in the Upper Receiver, such that I had to tap it out using a couple of bolt carriers end-to-end as my "punch". Not exactly the right tool for the job, but it worked.

The barrel itself appears to be very professionally made with clean machining on all surfaces. Everything mated together with the upper receiver just fine, with no slop in the Barrel Nut or Gas Block. The rifling appears to be sharp and consistent with the barrel itself marked "5.56mm 1/7" on the underside. Based solely on appearance and ease of assembly, I have to say that I am very pleased thus far. Tomorrow I will (hopefully) hit the 40m indoor range and will bring back an accuracy report. If I can get 2 MOA out of the carbine with PMC XTAC ammo, I will be a happy camper. Watch and shoot.....

Here is the finished product:

wow, very nice! Mine's going to look pretty much identical. Even have (almost) the same optic mounted. I think I'm going to see if Dlask can do the barrel swap for me tomorrow - I don't have a proper block for my upper receiver, and don't really want ot F up my upper! Will post pics and a range report when I get to that point :)

Got mine installed yesterday - crazy how much difference in weight and balance it makes. The upper receiver with the new barrel and gas system weighs less than the old barrel alone. If it's reliable and reasonably accurate, I think we have a winner

Does the MR556A1 lower accept any/all "mil-spec" uppers?

I heard the first MR556 versions did not.
