HK MR223 owners have a 416 Barrel Option

So, I confirmed last night that the least expensive 3rd party importer is not a site sponsor, so cannot be named here. Suffice it to say that they are the Angstadt Arms importer for Canada... Anyhow, they will import a parts kit for a $35 fee, plus $26 shipping from their Penticton office to your doorstep. $61 CAD all-in, for the math-impaired.

I then called HKParts.net this morning and ordered up the 10.4" MR556 Barrel Conversion Kit. That's the only part that hurt - $589.95 USD converted from our painfully weak CAD! HKParts.net were happy to take my Cc information once I told them they would be shipping to a U.S. FFL for export. I gave them the Yucca, AZ address of the importer's U.S. office, they sent me a receipt with tracking #, and I provided the tracking # to the importer for follow-up.

The above was all I had to do to get the ball rolling. Now the wait begins for the next monthly import of items by the importer, after which I too shall possess "the gun that killed Osama". I can always revert the carbine to something akin to the USMC M27 IAR by simply reinstalling the 16" barrel. Yay!

I hope this helps anyone else looking to import parts from the U.S. Nothing to fear aside from the currency conversion. Otherwise it is a very easy process!

Nice take the lead.

fantastic news! well done taking the initiative to get this ball rolling

^^^^ wow $50 from PR!?!?!?

They charged me $250 on my last import and it too was a conversion kit

If its a non serialized part, ie, not the receiver/lower, you should be charged 50.00 as long as one line item on receipt. Email me, if this mistake was made, we owe you money. That's how we are charged .

EDIT:
Just looking back through the import. I see a parts kit and extra mags, that makes more sense.
For everybody's info: if importing a receiver, it counts as a firearm, both in Canada and USA-so, its charged the firearm fees. If importing parts, its 50.00 per line item. So, a couple identical barrels are 50.00 for the two as they are licensed together. A parts kits, its very important to have seller invoice as 'parts' kits as we have to legally follow invoice, so, if they list every part seperately, it gets very expensive quickly. Be sure to check with us first, before importing. :)
Remember, a barrel and mags, etc, is at least two line items!

Thanks for the info. I just emailed this same importer, so I may be joining you in the short-barreled HK club :)

I got one. So far not impressed other than the killer looks. Accuracy has been poor with 55g, 65, and 69g bullets of many different manufacturers' match ammo as well my precision reloads. Best group at 100m was 3" with my precision reloads. The average group is 4" at 100m. I was expecting much better. I had a very compatant smith install my barrel and he immediately noticed the threading and fit wasn't as precision as the german made original 16" barrel. I'm going to have him have another look at it to see if he can see any issues with it that I cant. Otherwise she'll be up for sale.

How did cycle? did you feel that it was normal or "over gassed" were any of the "parts" German? or all made in the US?
I was wondering if this was a "re-branded" Titan style of barrel and GB? , and that's not meant to be negative BTW, just a curiosity.

Thanks for the review, just wondering were you expecting much more from a 10" barrel @ 100yrds?, or something in the 2 MOA range?

There is nothing magical about installing MR barrel. It is easier than typical AR, the barrel nut is much better.

I will just wait for the real deal German 11.5 MR.

I agree, and while the German one would be best, this a "modest" way of getting the 10" upper, and for a range gun worth it IMO.

The gas system works without any issues. The gun is much louder and produces a much more notable flash. Your piston will be a lot dirtier requiring more time cleaning. No big deal but it's noticable.

All parts appear to be US made. There isn't much in the way of parts. Just the barrel itself, locknut, gas block and flash hider. It was the barrel locknut that didn't fit as nice as the original German barrel locknut. That's what my smith noticed righ away when first installing the 10" barrel.

Today we inspected the crown and it does appear that it has a noticable imperfection on it. I have to find a smith that can recrown this barrel with its Nitride treatment. Apparently it makes the crown much harder to cut. So that's next. The group sizing for factory ammo is unacceptable. It's not fun to shoot because it's so unpredicatble.

Hopefully you guys get straight shooting clean barrels and my experience is isolated.

Just spoke with HK USA...these barrels are not manufactured by them. They only manufacture the 16" barrels they told me. Hmmm Trying to get a hold of HK Parts now.

This is a "clone" kit, using German parts would be cost prohibitive, however I was curious if they may used any? That said, on HKPRO there was some "whispers" that Adam had been talking to Todd Bailey, who was making the Titan 416 clones. The Titan uppers show up on GB from time to time. There's one running at Battlefield Vegas, and it seems to be doing well?

Having barrel recrowned today. Smith also noticed gas block is a little loose and perhaps making contact with quad rail and those things can also affect accuracy. Having that fixed also. Hopefully I'll get to test it this weekend. I'll let you know results.
