Big deal, he used 10 shots and missed twice.

But seriously folks. it was the most impressive handgun shooting I've heard about in a real life situation, Jason Bourne indeed. Got to go to the link for the videos etc, not much is reproducible here. From Not The Bee, the truthy side of Babylon Bee.

HOLY MOLY: Someone made a rendering of the 40-yard shot that took down the Indiana mall shooter and I am in awe

I couldn't have done it better myself, folks.

Check out this post from a Facebook user who used a photo of the food court of the mall in Greenwood, Indiana, where Good Samaritan Eli Dickens stopped a maniac in 15 SECONDS using 8 well-placed bullets from his pistol at over 40 yards away.

Not only the distance, but the pressure of the situation as well. No prep, no build-up, just react, draw and fire. Very impressive.

and being directly in the mass shooters crosshairs. no time for cover. at that distance and hitting that many that quick, This guy is a badass

I thought he braced on a pillar though? Savage skills on display either way but the rendering appears inconsistent with the report.

Crazy shot but yeah the pillar is missing and add a few people down range then you would get an even better feel for the situation. The kid deserves a medal.

I carried a handgun for work for almost 30yrs,,,, From day 1 took it very serious,, I bought a gun and holster just like my duty rig and practiced 2 to 3 times a week for about 10yr, cut back to at least once a week to keep up my skills and added more shooting times when life allowed me to,,, when we transitioned to semi s from revolver I did the same thing bought the identical rig and even went so far as to shoot ipsc matches with my duty holster set up. I know full well how much adrenaline flowing will affect your groups,,,, you can shoot 2 in groups all day on a range or ipsc,,, the minute you are in a real life situation that group opens up tremendously. I applauded this young man with being able to maintain his composure and do what he did. At last we were told to never get involved in something like this to just get out of there,,, many of the older guys myself included told them if we are in a position to save lifes even if its just pinning the guy down till cops arrived thats what we would do,,,, thankfully it never happened.

There is a GoFundHim page (in the event that you wish to express your support in that way). You know that he must shoot a lot, and that ammunition costs money.

this reminds me of the period of time where CHAS range didn't have a pistol range and I practised pistol shots on the 50 m steel plates. Developed some very nice skills by being forced to shoot at ranges longer than average pistol range.

Kid deserves a medal is right.

The distance isn't the issue, until you factor in likely being shot at, and the risk of hitting bystanders.

I'm not aware of competitions that can replicate that.

We ran a stage at Speed Steel yesterday just to get an idea of the difficulty. The COF was 10 shots on a torso sized steel plate at 40 yards in 15 seconds, 8 out of 10 shots minimum to score, any less was a default 30 second time score. Most of our squad were able to accomplish this, we had a couple who only hit 7 out of 10. I would say the average time was around 10 seconds.
Our fastest time was a 10/10 run at 4.05 seconds, I personally ran 9/10 in 6.47 seconds.
This is obviously not the same as a food court full of people, an active shooter and I would imagine a massive adrenaline dump, but it was interesting to run anyway.
Props to the young man for his response to the situation

Y'all need to start shooting PPC. 50M shots are the norm. It's not that difficult with a bit of practice to keep them in the center of a B27.

Not that difficult with a little practice, and a competition gun, and ideal conditions, and a scheduled match, and a stationary high contrast target, and no one running around trying to flee, and no active shooter to return fire, and less than half of a PPC match is 50m.

Yes it's doable, but he had none of those things. He went from casual shopping mode to 8/10 rounds on a moving target using a glock (probably a compact model) in less than 15 seconds from the shooters first shot. And take some of that time off to assess and acquire the target, and he's a 22 year old kid, not a veteran sport shooter.

By any measure, it was a solid shooting performance.
