Hornady ELD-X

from the previous range session to the 300y group above, here's four consecutive groups @ 100y with the 143ELDX, avg is .56moa

In the 7mm this was the previous group to the 1.3" @ 591y. A 3" @ 497y (0.57moa)

I'm a hunter, shoot out to 700y for fun. ELDX work well for me. I seen the Berger groups you posted in your 308 Varget thread.

Posting wallet groups is your style Todd. I'm glad they work for you. Must be the heat shield tips...
Send me some stickers and I'll post some 3 shotters too!
Nevermind, I can cover the flyers with my gun. Good idea ;)

Nice groups!

I’ve had nothing but success with these bullets, in several different rifles. Using modern reloading techniques it’s child’s play to dial in a load.

I could use masking tape like Slamfire

I won't use them again for hunting. Shot a moose in the shoulder at 80 yds and the bullet disintegrated and blew the shoulder apart. Barnes X bullets never do this and they are accurate. My go to bullets for everything hunting.

If I shot 1.3 " groups at 591 yds, that would be one single hole at 100 and I have yet to see that in a hunting rifle with a hunting bullet. I call bullshiyt .

High speed impact and a soft bullet that will happen. If it was 600 yards you’d have been better off with that shot placement.

Small groups at range don’t always mean small groups at 100

lol That load would often shoot around 1moa at 100y. To be honest I rarely shot the rifle inside of 300 yards. Current owner of the rifle has taken it out to 1400 yards with good results. It's a Defiance Machine Rebel action, McMillan Mtn rifle stock, Pacnor 1:8 twist custom rifle. Half moa was the norm with the 162 ELDx

Don’t shoot shoulders with a lead bullet and you won’t have that problem. Try aiming behind the shoulder next time.

300 Norma Mag and the 212gr ELD-X
7 WSM and the 180gr ELD-M

Has been outstanding for me. Minimal load development, accurate right off the start. I have no reason to try anything else.

Here's a question that has me stumped I'm hoping someone can help with.
My load data is-
Reminington 5R Gen 2 .300Win Mag
Norma Brass
200 gr8 ELD-X
Federal 215M primers
72.6 gr H4831SC

Speeds -
2706
2696
2709

Group at 200 yards - .880" as per range buddy app. While I like the accuracy and es, why are these things going so slow?

Any insight is appreciated.

Thanks BH

Maybe the 5R barrel has a smaller or larger bore area than traditional 6-groove rifling? I don't know - I've never had a 5R barrel. Maybe your chronograph needs a new battery? Or if it's a Shooting Chrony brand maybe you were shooting on a sunny evening and it didn't like the low light angle. I had that once and it read surprisingly low velocity with a known fast load. I wouldn't trust any optical chrony 100%. I need to stop buying new guns and get a Lab Radar.

Use a different chronograph and try some h1000

I was using a standard Caldwel cronoy. I don't believe light was an issue. As for powders I've tried mutipule loads with H1000 and Retumbo. The rifle didn't like them at all and I was seeing pressure issues at higher loads. I did go .5 grain higher with the H4831 and the accuracy went to crap. The speeds were only 40 fps higher......

Light is always an issue with those chronographs. I’ve seen wild spreads on my shooting chrony with very minimal change in light

Todbartell. Thanks for the info. That makes me feel a little better about things as I'm running 24" barrel. I guess I will work with what I have and see how it does at some longer ranges.

Hometownhero. Good info. I will keep an eye on that as well.

44 shooter. Keep us posted as I have some RL22 kicking around as well.

Cheers BH
