Hornady Introduces Yet Another New 300 Magnum Cartridge

I would expect more interest among younger shooters... But

I expect greater interest among young shooters as most here probably thought about owning a 300WM at one time or another... I've shot and hunter with the 300WM with 180 and 200 grainers on several occasions and find them great for longer ranges and colder weather... Lots of experience with the 30-06 and no need for details. In comparison to the 300WM I find the 300WSM to be a tad more pleasant to shoot - with 180 grainers... If I were consider the 300 PRC I would find more interest in a 325, 338, or 35 PRC.

Another interesting bit of information:

.300 Wby with 200gr Partition and Nosler brass has case capacity of 87.6gr of H20
.30 Nosler with 200gr Partition and Nosler brass has case capacity of 87.5gr of H20

But the Nosler, according to Nosler's data, uses a few grains less powder to achieve the same velocity.

Could be due to shorter freebore in the 30N

Lots of freebore in my m48 30 nosler. ..212 eldx won't eject though ejection port when loaded to touch the lands.

I'm really excited about this one! This means I will be able to buy relatively inexpensive brass which I should be able to form to 30 Newton in one pass. By the way, the case capacity on this appears to be about the same as the 300 Win Mag. The 30 Newton is exactly the same as the 308 Norma mag.
I think it is worth noting that the Newton came out several years prior to the 300 H&H and over 100 years prior to this late arriving imitator, the 300PRC. If Winchester had chosen to chamber the Newton in their Model 54 and the later Model 70, we would probably never have see a 300 H&H made in the USA. We would never have seen the 308 Norma, the 300 Winchester or, one would hope, the 300 WSM. Newton also had offerings in .33, .35, .375, and .40 calibers. He also had a 7mm but it was based on a case more like a long .284 Winchester.

I will just continue shooting my custom 300 Win Mag. 215 Bergers at 3000 fps is no slouch and will run close to the Nosler or the PRC. The Win Mag with the right reamer is impressive.

I have built several 7-375 and several 338-375. That is probably the best magnum case ever devised. It is incredibly efficient in the 7mm it can launch a 180 at 3200 and change. In the 338 it can launch a 250 at 3140 from a 27” barrel. This 300 prc is a game changer. Your average hunter was not the concern with this cartridge, its made for the LR-ELR game. And it will catch on like wild fire just watch.....
