This has been an issue for many years. After running ‘low’ on Hornady One Shot last year I scoured Canada and couldn’t find even one can on anyone’s shelf.
Called Hornady direct for an answer and finally found out why it isn’t being shipped up into Canada. You won’t believe this but it’s true…can’t import into Canada because it doesn’t have any instructions in FRENCH on the can!! Sooo…while on vacation visiting a friend in Florida I ordered a dozen cans from Scheels and had my friend throw it in their truck when returning to Ontario in the spring. Love that stuff, should last me a few months, lol.
BUT I’ll grab a can of that specialty WD-40 and play with it. Backup is always good.
No problems in the rounds I have loaded so far, but as I stated earlier, I precoat the inside of a Ziploc bag with the spray, then dump in the brass and shake the bag, so there really shouldn't be any of the lube getting inside the cases.Re the WD40 Dry Lube: Has anyone had any issues of powder/primer corruption from it?
Not yet. Should any arise I'll certainly post the results here. - danRe the WD40 Dry Lube: Has anyone had any issues of powder/primer corruption from it?
After decapping and sizing, I run my brass through an ultrasonic cleaner. No issues for me and clean primer pockets.Ok, so the wd40 dry lube works fine, but you definitely have to clean the cases after. Even with a cloth wipe after, the cases end up slightly sticky after a week or two waiting to be loaded. Viable alternative though. - dan
I have one, but mostly use it for parts. Throw them in my tumbler for an hour though, and they come out fine. After decapping and sizing, I run my brass through an ultrasonic cleaner. No issues for me and clean primer pockets.
Generally my cases get 2 wet baths, one to get any corruption from the range and another after the lube and resize.
I only use the WD40 for pistol cases and so far it's working well. I put the brass in a plastic tray the sized of a 24 beer flat and hose them down, just like I did with One Shot. It's actually kind of nice to be able to buy case lube at NAPA or CT rather than have to go to a gun store or order it.
Using carbide dies I've never found the need to lube pistol cases? Does the WD40 degrade powder if not cleaned entirely?
