Horse or Quad or Jeep. Witch would u want ?

bush proven custom jeep yj with lockers and some lift, 8000lb winch...... 125 cc dirt bike on the back rack ....... and my feet......

none of the three have ever let me down out here in the b.c. woods.
it would be a true adventure to take a horse back hunting trip..... might just do that some day.

Years ago I used to have 2 horses took them hunting all of the time.

I was able to get to some of the best/remote areas imaginable without killing myself packing everything in/out...

I don't have horses anymore, it is a lot less work parking the quad in the garage over the winter I just can't get my quad up the same game trails that I would go up on horse back.

My vote is for having a horse...

I have a Jeep and a quad .They get me to where I want to go ,then walk. Have always wanted to hunt on horses, but it hasn't happened yet.

I made this post originally because I was up in the air on witch one to get. I currently have a jeep but had planned on selling it this summer as I have a nother good 4x4 truck for a daily driver.

I ended up taking the jeep and started to make it a bush ride. I like the idea of a horse as well but a good point came up. If my truck ever brakes down at least ill have a way to get to work.

I may still get a horse later some day but just not now.

Lets see your jeep or quad do this.

This is almost unbelievable!

This may be a first...

A couple from Montana were out riding on the range, he with his rifle and she (fortunately) with her camera. Their dogs always followed them, but on this occasion a Mountain Lion decided that he wanted to stalk the dogs (you'll see the dogs in the background watching). Very, very bad decision...

The hunter got off the mule with his rifle and decided to shoot in the air to scare away the lion, but before he could get off a shot the lion charged in and decided he wanted a piece of those dogs. With that, the mule took off and decided he wanted a piece of that lion. That's when all hell broke loose... for the lion.

As the lion approached the dogs the mule snatched him up by the tail and started whirling him around. Banging its head on the ground on every pass. Then he dropped it, stomped on it and held it to the ground by the throat. The mule then got down on his knees and bit the thing all over a couple of dozen times to make sure it was dead, then whipped it into the air again, walked back over to the couple (that were stunned in silence) and stood there ready to continue his ride... as if nothing had just happened.

Fortunately even though the hunter didn't get off a shot, his wife got off these 4..

Sorry to say that cat was long time dead before the ol mule got hold of it. Story was a hoax.

You guys ever think what the horse will do when you fire a Gun off his back??? JITC
You cannot legally fire a gun off the back of a horse.
Now, if you could, there are very simple ways of getting the horse prepared for the shot...but they involve training that will probably land you on your head more than once in the process.

Gettin horses used to gunfire is not as hard as one may think it is. I have owned many horses that I could crack a whip off of , and shooting a gun around them is not a problem once they are used to it.I have 2 nephews who train horses and on more than one occasion the one nephew has carried his 22 when he goes out for a ride on colts that have only had a rider on it back a half dozen times. It ain't that big a deal, you just don't take a shot the first time from the back of the horse.!!!!!!!!!!

Quad!

Had horses around growing up,and got a horse crazy woman for a wife. Too much maintenance, for the horse.

Seen a couple of them Japanese Kei trucks all duded out with lift kits and off-road tires, and figure one of them might be a decent other option. About the same cost as a quad or side by side, except with a closed in cab, heater, and, if you pick the right one, a decent dump box or tilt deck to haul yer stuff in.

Horse hunting would be OK if you were riding someone else's horses, and they were along to do the horse maintenance while you were off hunting, but otherwise, they cut into time better spent eating or sleeping. Not my thing. I hunt accordingly.

Cheers

I own a horse and a dirt bike. I've used both for hunting and also a friends quad. While the quad works the best with the least amount of maintenance, I like my horse best. He has pointed out quite a few deer, bear and elk to me, plus I also use him for search & rescue. There is quite a bit of maintenance and training involved, but I really enjoy working with him.
