Cheers on the gongs and here's to easy who volunteered to walk out to the 200 yard hanger and bring them back! Not to mention organize the whole thing. Thanks satain for the coffee and all. It looked like everybody had fun and I'm sure there will be lots of opinions for a good, smooth and even shoot next time out. Hats off to the winner(who quickly left with his 340rnds) and especially to the second place gent with 11 gongs with open sights. Now thats impressive! Something to strive for.

Great job shooting guys and many many thanks for helping out Satain and myself running the show. It was gratifying to say the least, to see the turnout and the level of shooting skill.
Congratulations once again to:

Now that we've patted ourselves on the back, let's throw around some ideas.
We will figure out how to streamline the procedure for faster turnaround so we can get in more shooting, but let's settle on a date for the next.

Hi all. Had a good time and I'm glad my poor shooting skills didn't deprive anyone else of a well earned prize, heh.
I think that for the next event we might want to consider a weekend morning event. I was quite surprised to see that many people out to the event on a Tuesday evening, especially considering that Poco is not the easiest place to get to for many Vancouver residents. I'm sure there are people who can't make it out to the range on a week night ( such as myself usually ) and it would also give us as much time as we needed to complete the match.
I think we could make a Saturday or Sunday morning event work if we consolidated our area a bit. This time we had the room to spread out, so using 5 or 6 benches for the match was not too much of a problem for the other members. But, I think that we could get down to three benches, two being right hand, and one left hand, grouped all together probably near the left end of the range. The scopes/spotters could be set up on the yellow benches directly behind, and that would minimize our impact on the other shooters who come out on the weekend.
This doesn't mean, of course, that members of our group couldn't set up at benches as we usually would, but I think it would be better received if we minimized our impact on the other users.
One problem , as we saw, is asking other folks not to shoot at the gongs during our match, but I think that can be handled with a little cooperation from the range officers.
Anyway, some of my observations and ideas.

I have been to the range for the last four Saturdays. While it does get busy, I think that with the suggestions I've mentioned that we could hold a successful match without inconveniencing the other members or having any problems with space ourselves. We could wait to start the actual match till after 10 AM to allow non-members to sign in, and not everybody would need to claim a shooting bench for themselves if they are just attending for the match.
As for the gongs, as I said, if the range wardens helped us out by announcing that the gongs were in use for the match I believe the other shooters would be inclined to help us out till the match was over.

Ya, I would have to agree. If we do this again, we should make our own gong stand. As for the chance for us to do the same thing on the weekend would require us to rent the range or we can do it on a week night again without the need to book the range.
The Range officer on Tuesday night said he could not stop the public from shooting at the public gong. He said we could request them not to. I think Saturday and Sunday are not a good idea as they will only get busier as the hunting season approaches.
Problem with using the yellow benches for the spotting scopes is that they move with everyone touching them. That's why I moved up to a shooting bench.
Weekend matches have problems like people have mentioned plus often there are other matches on the weekends preventing some from showing up for this.
Weekdays have problems too. Traffic for one thing. It took about 30 minutes for me to drive the maybe 1 km before the new bridge on Hwy 7 heading west. 3 lanes going down to 1. Don't know when the bridge is scheduled to open?

The RO did ask people not to shoot the match gongs, the problem is that there were two match gongs on each side of the club gong. RO's are not going to tell ppl not to shoot @ the public use stuff.
You know how ppl get on the range, half are in their own time-zone and the other half are only concerned with their own activities.
Perhaps we could arrange to rent the range, if we ask nice they may let us use it after 5PM on a Sat/Sun in August......

1. How does a Saturday afternoon, say from 12 noon to 4:00 pm., in August or September.
Please give your .02 regarding the date. We need to firm up the date before we can move ahead with other details. As well, we all need to mark this date on our calendars.
Other ideas:
2. We can occupy the 6 left most lanes so we can have 3 shooter and 3 caller/scorer benches.
3. Participants can come and shoot in the morning to sight-in and practice.
4. We can set up our own gong stand, with permission from the Club and therefore can request non-participants to refrain from joining our shoot unofficially
5. We will have assigned callers/scorers.
6. We will have two classes, iron and scoped (dot or telescopic together)
7. If there are at least two shooters, we can add a CZ858/58 class.
8. We should really try to run 2 heats. I'd like everybody to throw more lead downrange, for all the trouble of organizing/coming to the shoot.

I'm definitely up for another go any time, but we should book try to book the range, it may not be that expensive if we try to book for 4 hours or so. Also the PCDHFC is CLOSED from July 31-August 9, 2009 for the WFP games

As for scoped rifles, the pot can be comprised of entrance fee ammo boxes given by each scoped participant.
