You won't have to win to brag. Just be there then you can say "I was one of them". My friend has a CAD laser .............might be able to get something made up.
ps tug still floating

Emmab, I for one as with the rest of the participants are all on the same page. Being at POCO to have this fun shoot and meeting other proud SKS owners is the reason we are all in an up-tempo mood. As for the CAD laser, if no viable ideas arise, what about a tug boat silhouette with two 10" missing panels???????
Of course - Above the water line!!!!:D:rockOn::canadaFlag::sniper:

Rules
Target will be the 200 meter 10-inch Square Gong. (through the kindness of Emmab)
Shot will be done by sandbag rest.
You will have 20 rounds to shoot in 5 minutes @ 1 gong.
All hits count, as long as the gong moves perceptibly, or you hear the sound of the bullet impact as determined by the scorer/s.
Scorer/s decision is final.
One spotter/scorer per competitor take turns scoring for each other
Tie breaker: 5 round shoot-off
Entry fee: one or two boxes 7.62 x 39 ammo
Most hits wins
1st Place Prize, takes all the entry ammo
2nd Place Prize, Spotting Scope (so you can practice for the next "gong shoot")
3rd Place Prize, Bino's (So you can see were the gong is!:p)
Open to all SKS from any country of origin, fixed or detachable magazine, stock or tacticooled.
Since emmab made us 2 gong's we are going to have 2 people shooting and with 2 spotters.
Each shooter will be shooting at 1 gong depending were they are shooting.
Open to any suggestions or additions.

Just a few questions, do have to use the stock iron sights or any type of iron sights? Can reddots or scopes be used?

1. Depending on how many scope/dot shooters show up, we may opt to have a separate class for them.

2. Alternatively, we can have a reverse handicap formula for red dot and scope shooters.

Suggestion:

Red dot (1X magnification) : Number of hits x .85 = Score

Scope (Telescopic, any magnification) : Number of hits x .70 = Score

Assumptions in using these handicaps are:
1) red dot scopes are easier and quicker to align than open iron;
2) telescopic scopes are even easier;
3) The SKS is a 4 - 6 MOA rifle and the use of sighting aids will definitely help accuracy, but at 200 meters, the SKS's accuracy limitations has a great bearing on ability to hit a 10 inch square gong.
4) We also have a time limit so scopes have the edge.
5) Hence I thought the multiplication factors fair, but that is just me.

Guys, what do you think?

No. It's the apple and orange scenario. I think it should be two different classes. Open and not. It's a totally unfair advantage for the scoped units. I know, I have one which I'll bring. Red dots would cover more than the target and would be a disadvatage IMHO but should be in the non open class too. Open for opinions of course

So we need 3 classes then?
1. iron sight
2. red dot
3. telescopic

I guess as long as we have at least two shooters per class, we have a shoot! Sounds reasonable.

Two classes, Iron and telescopic?

How bout red dots, what do we do with them? Enter them with the irons?

In my opinion SKS are SKS, let them shoot what ever they want iron, reddot or scope. Most mounts out there are cover or gas tube mounts, you might as well throw a rock at 200 meter with those type of mounts. If somebody shows up with high end Choate or Scout mounts so what they still have to hit the target. This is a fun shoot that I am looking foward to and to many rules in my opinion takes the fun away....................

bjs, what you said above says it all. It is about having fun. Rottboy wants it simple as well. I think our rules are simple enough too.

The SKS is not a target rifle that will benefit from a scope, IMO.

If somebody comes with proper scope mounts and scopes, which is not likely, proves that indeed the SKS with scope has an advantage and cleans the match with 20/20, well, we will change the rules next time around:D

So I'm with bjs, c3pppo and hid. One class SKS rifle of any type/country/degree of bubbafication/sighting device.

You oK with this emmab? Heck I just wanna shoot, mess up those pretty tugboat gongs of yours and have some laughs with you SKS guys FTF.

What say all you gentlemen, is this carried?

Only three days till the GONG SHOOT!

Sight in your rifles for 200 meters, gentlemen.

Remember to come 4:40 pm so we will be first in and get tables for last minute sighters and practice.

I'm hoping we can run two heats before sunset.
