How and when did you get your first DQ?

3 gun match.... ar reload.... with a BAD lever..... little over exuberant in dropping the bolt meant finger carried on to the trigger.... ND plain and simple *(into the berm) .... think my squad was more concerned about the DQ than I was *(what my reaction would be)
..ditched guns... loaded up on patches and carried on

like they say, you either have, or will

I always thought that we should have some dairy queen *anything* for those that join this club...
but some folks... don't..... respond well to DQ ribbing...

I like your attitude sir! I'll be a lot more careful this weekend in our 2G match!

And this is exactly why bad levers and phase 5 Ambi bolt releases are not to be added to any owners AR. You are not the first and will not be the last with these bling items added. YouTube is full of videos demonstrating that.

I am not belittling you in any way but am perplexed to here the criticism directed at many posters who dislike the modification.

I have not been DQ'd yet, but have personally witnessed 2. The one worth sharing was on a stage involving a rope loop tied to any part of your body. The other end of the rope was tied to a post to restrict how far you can go. My buddy tied the rope to his right shoulder, ran too far too fast, rope caught and he swung his arm backward breaking the 180. Everyone else after him got smarter and tie the rope to either weak arm or belly.

Winter 3 gun match.
Oiled all my guns before match because it was snowing.
Running down range with Rifle in my hands. HG popped out of my holster.

You sure it was winter? Cause I was ROing you during one June 3gun match where that exact thing happened...felt bad about it too and that’s why 5 or 6 years later I still remember it.

No offense but it sounds like what you really needed was a smarter stage designer.

I had a pretty good run before my first DQ. My first was last year...rifle through a port window (level with the range floor and pointed into the bunker) and clearing a malfunction...tap, rack, click, damn, yank mag, tap, rack, bang...opps...<did anyone notice that?> continue remedial action...finally the tap on the shoulder <brain processes that yes, in fact, everyone noticed that>.

The best part was it was all caught on video; everything from the gallery chatter stopping dead as everyone waited to see if the RO would DQ the MD to my silly look up at the RO like, “whatcha talkin’ bout Willis?” . That was the embarrassing part for me - the realization that in the heat of the competition I f’d up but instead of stopping myself I kept rocking and rolling. My buddy filming it said that was one video to delete but I didn’t. Actually posted it to YouTube. It’s a good reminder of a lot of things. Nothing to be ashamed of but plenty to learn from.

If your safety was engaged as it should have been this never would have happened. And don't bolt stupid sh*t to your guns.

BAD levers work by pressing down, not back. It's not the design of the lever, but human error.

All my ARs have them on, and I use them alot in competition and training. Never had a ND, or even came close to actuating the trigger.

My one and only DQ came because of an obscure IPSC rule that should have (IMO) prompted a warning from the RO instead, or at least, a reminder while I was walking to the line. As it were, I was in violation of this "rule" somewhat, and he waited for me to load and make ready, went through the "are you ready?" "stand by........" routine, released his thumb on the timer, and waited for me to begin my draw. Pistol was still in the process of being presented when he yelled "STOP!" and DQ'd me for being in violation of IPSC rule 12,397,602.a9c or some such nonsense. Didn't even get a shot off, or to even line up my sights.

Guy was and still is a ####, but he's also a member here, so I won't say much more. Never did another IPSC match again and instead turned to IDPA, 3Gun, and USPSA.

Have never come close to inserting my finger within the trigger guard much less pulling a trigger on either of my AR’s while operating my bad levers in practice, 3 Gun or IPSC rifle matches. Most of my friends also have them installed on their AR’s and have never seen them or anyone else ever experience a ND as a result of trying to operate a bad lever.

What the poster described in his ND DQ story while operating his bad lever was user error pure and simple. You practice enough with a bad lever your finger will always be pointed straight and outside the trigger guard just like it is or should be positioned along the receiver body when making a mag change, clearing a malfunction or moving.

The day you get a DQ due to that gizmo you will remember this post. Many have succumbed to this apparatus regardless of how much training during stressful competition. I can see using it for bench-rest plinking, but as the saying goes “don’t #### with Eugene or God”!, always thumbs up.

I got mine in Norway in 2016 I think, November. Broke the reduced safety angles on a stage during a reload running back. They don't have Dairy Queen there so instead I just got ice cream at the restaurant later. I took off my gear packed it up, grabbed the tape and helped out for the rest of the match.
I did get kicked out of IPSC BC for a year for giving a couple guys Dairy Queen gift cards at the Nationals in 2012, that's like a big DQ right?
