I was sure someone was gonna point out that this is blatantly illegal, and yet I was embarrassingly wrong.:p

Good for you, Leeper. God help you if you ever get busted for such standard operating procedures, but good for you.

I still cannot for the life of me comprehend how we allow the government to dictate to us what we do in our own home.

Ditto!

It's not blatantly illegal - or even slightly illegal. I have some idea as to where Bill lives and, as long as he's home, the gun is in use and it's ok to be loaded if he lives in a area where shooting is legal.

I hate 'safe kisses'........complete bogusness.....and unnecessary.

I won't buy a safe kissed gun. If it had marks from honest use I would though. Stack ons are cheap if the safe is that tight.

I have bolts in in a locked cabinet and a locked room, no windows.

STORAGE OF NON-RESTRICTED FIREARMS

5. (1) An individual may store a non-restricted firearm only if
(a) it is unloaded;

(b) it is

(i) rendered inoperable by means of a secure locking device,

(ii) rendered inoperable by the removal of the bolt or bolt-carrier, or

(iii) stored in a container, receptacle or room that is kept securely locked and that is constructed so that it cannot readily be broken open or into; and

(c) it is not readily accessible to ammunition, unless the ammunition is stored, together with or separately from the firearm, in a container or receptacle that is kept securely locked and that is constructed so that it cannot readily be broken open or into.

(2) Paragraph (1)(b) does not apply to any individual who stores a non-restricted firearm temporarily if the individual reasonably requires it for the control of predators or other animals in a place where it may be discharged in accordance with all applicable Acts of Parliament and of the legislature of a province, regulations made under such Acts, and municipal by-laws.
(3) Paragraphs (1)(b) and (c) do not apply to an individual who stores a non-restricted firearm in a location that is in a remote wilderness area that is not subject to any visible or otherwise reasonably ascertainable use incompatible with hunting.

You'll notice that paragraph 1 a is not excluded in either case.

Please keep in mind that I'd love to be proven wrong (even if the author of this thread lives out in the boonies, which means that this "loophole doesn't apply to me). Until recently, I didn't even know that Big Brother had the power to dictate to me what I could or couldn't do in my own freakin' house.....

The problem with your theory is that you are quoting STORAGE regulations.

If you live in an area that it is legal to discharge firearms, and you have a loaded firearm handy, the gun is IN USE.

Note Bill said that he puts the gun away if he leaves his house. That would be storage.

I actually keep my bolt action rifle stored in a hard rifle case with a trigger lock on it. This way there's less chance of me bumping the optics when putting it in my "Locking gun cabinet".

This rifle case is the same one I use to transport to the range and back.

EDIT: Not that I haven't bumped it during cleaning before :(

My guns also live in the safe. HOWEVER! for some reason, space in the safe is becoming tight so I store the bolts separately in the top compartment of the safe.

I ran out of room in 3 gun safes so am now building a walk in gunlocker in the "man cave" I'll have lots more room so I'll tell the wife I need to buy more guns to fill it up!!! smart hey!!

Looks like your wish has been granted.....

The odd mark aquired from honest use in the field happens, and could be considered a small badge of honor.

Dents and scratches from being taken in and out of the safe is just abuse.
