How does a CZ858 compare to an AK47?

How does the CZ858 compare in terms of accuracy, reliability and maintenance? Better? Worse? Also, can it mount a scope and is it accurate enough to warrant mounting a scope for 100-300 yard target shooting?

1 - Better
2 - Better
3 - Worse (because everyone knows rust makes AK's more accurate ;) )
4 - Yes... but I have no problems hitting gongs at 300 with a aimpoint... so why?

execpt for the scope thing. Got a cheap Marstar NcStar 3-9 optic on mine and the 200 meter gong rings 4 time's out of five times if I drank enough coffee. I an't no sharp shooter if you know what I mean but when I compare it to the iron sight's 2 or 3 time's I fell like one. This is also acheved sitting on a bench and with the bi-pod that they issued with the rifle. PM superpeg for his mount set-up if you realy want to put a nice scope on there. Also as a side note. I live in B.C. so the whole corrosive ammo thing would drive me nut's. So I only use non corrosive in my CZ 858. I think I am around 3,000 plus rounds and have only cleaned it maybe four times.

Hey Satain, where can you find non-corrosive in BC now day? I almost used up all my supply of non-corrosive surplus from the mid 90s. Unable to find any non-corrosive 7.62x39 since the year 2000 unless you are paying big for the new mfg ammos.

Totally different animal from inside, but:

1. accuracy better

2. reliability worse

3. maintenance worse

AK has fewer moving parts and those are stronger.

Scope? Yes if you can find a reliable place to put one.

2. reliability worse

Have you actually owned a AK or used one or seen one used as it was intended, or ar you basing that off what you've heard on TV.

I'd MUCH rather have a CZ than an AK in ANY situation.

That's a big statement without a followup...

I would be interested in knowing if the as issued, select fire military VZ suffers with the gremlin. If it doesn't it would seem from all I've read on the "intranets" that the VZ 58 compares quite favourably against the AK in most categories.
I must say I find my 858 one of the easiest firearms to disassemble/reassemble of all I own...and thats more than a few.

Mad Mikey :)

Why not run corrosive rounds? They're cheaper. It's just a CZ. Not like it's a real AK47. I live in BC too. I have a CZ too. I've run thousands of corrosice rounds. No problems, no rust.

seriously, and i thought my cz858 was so minimalistic compared to any semi-auto i've ever owned.

basically all you have to take down with the cz is the bolt( 3 pieces total) and the spring housing (1 piece total) meaning 4 pieces on the bench, and the retained pins are nice too so you don't lose them.

btw i've never seen the inner workings of an ak47.

One reason and one reason only...
I am F'ing lazy when it come's to cleaning!
:D

I find the CZ I own alot better than the AKM I've fired in the past. Besides the gremlin, which I fixed ages ago, I've never had any issues with reliability and it MUCH more accurate.

I've used both as well. CZ IS much more accurate. Both very reliable, never had a jam with either. Can't attest which one is more so. I would say disassembly is about the same on each, although different. I don't know why everyone loves ak's so much. Don't get me wrong, I like em too, but the CZ is all milled, and It's 2 POUNDS LIGHTER!

I have *heard* that ak mags are tons more reliable and durable than the cz mags.

On rifles such as these, magazines need to work, otherwise accuracy or durability of a rifle is meaningless.

Anyone have anything to prove/disprove that? Has anyone beat the crap out of a cz mag and still have it work 100%?

Thanks for the feedback. I have a CZ Shadow and I'm very happy with it's quality. I came across the CZ 858 by fluke on Google and was surprised to see something that looked like an AK47 yet was legal in Canada. Wasn't sure how it stacked up since it was not considered an AK variant. Wasn't sure if other CZ products were any good.

have to be honest here 3 cz handguns and 4 rifles including the 858 and now I mostly shoot cz if they ever make an ar 15 i probably would sell thye rest of my collection

Lol so how many of you guys who responed have actually shot AK's? The question is a loaded one its like going to a liberal fund raiser and asking what you think of Stephen Harper. Not all AK's are stamped, some are milled as well. It is the closest thin an average Gunnut can own to an AK, and does make for a very cool rifle.

Well,i never had the chance to try an AK but i own a cz858 this winter and i have nothing to complain about. Had fired 200rnds with, in cold weather, snow, never have any malfunction. I tried to make the gremlin appear but he never show up. Accurate, easy to maintain, pretty confortable too. For me, its a very good gun:):D
