M305 w/sling and loaded 5rnd mag= 11.0 pounds($415). I'm curious what most folks rifles weigh with optics/sights and ammo. How much does the weight reduction cost/pound?

I have a wide range of hunting rifles. My lightest is approx 5.6lbs (Kimber 84 Montana .338 Federal) and heaviest approx 9.8lbs (custom 45-70 on a Siamese mauser action). These were weighed on a digital bathroom scale, and not loaded.

I hunt with a Rem 700 Sendero in 300 WM in a Bell and Carlson Tactical stock with a Leupold 4.5-14 Mil Dot scope and a Harris Bipod and sling. It's a good thing I'm in shape and not too old yet! It's about 16 lbs. Then comes my OCD gear whether it's a "local" hunt or in the bonnies all day, about 25lbs. My next rifle for "local" hunting will be an M305/14 in 260 Rem with a composite stock and heavy barrel but still should be lighter than my Sendero.

I do most of my hunting on foot, in either very hilly or mountainous terrain.
Walking rifle is a Kimber 84M 7mm-08 6lbs all in.
My mountain rifle is a custom 700 in .280AI 7lbs all in.

When I am out hunting with my three year old son and his Grandpa we're in the truck, and I grab a scoped Enfield #5 thats gotta be close to 10 pounds. Feels like 20 pounds after carrying a Kimber! :p

Get a 3 point sling for your M-14 when it is up and running. It certainly makes it easier to pack in the bush for extended periods.

Too many guns, not enough scales:p

I have a model seven stainless/synthetic in 308 which will wear talley lightweight rings and a leupold compact 3-9x33 when the rings arrive. I would imagine that one will stay just under seven lbs once it is all put together. It will be my carry rifle for hunts when i expect to put miles on the boots. Coulee country and mountain type hunting.

There are several rifles that are standard sporters in the collection, and they run around 8lbs, give or take, scoped and loaded.

At the other end of the spectrum is my open country rig. A 6.5-06 that wears a vx-II 4-12x40AO, 24" Heavy sporter barrel, and bell and carlson medalist stock. This rifle is intended for a spot and quick stock, then shoot from a distance type hunt, in country that allows for it. All done up, probably a 12 lb rifle, but i need to get a scale out and weight these things, because i was having the same though around the same time this thread was being started.;)
