So on this years hunting trip my buddy put the moose down on the Friday, and we decided that seeing that we will be getting the meat cutting equipment messy with the moose, we would hold out one more day to see if we could pick up a Wt or two to add to the freezer.

It had been a poor showing for WT bucks all week, lots of does with fawns (usually twins) and only a few little spikers. Around 4pm I came across this little guy. Plus or minus 86 yards, non-supported, I let the black powder burn. 250 grain Hornady SST, he obviously dropped on the spot.

When putting the tender little guys in the freezer you don't want to waste any meat.;)

I'm gunna say lucky as well. Sure a muzzlerloader can be accurate at 80 yards, but you can't anticipate a deer moving his head around. Lucky you didn't blow his bottom jaw off or something to that extent.

nice buck though, congrats.

Nice shot, obviously you hit exactly where you were aiming. Any shot I have ever taken that hits exactly where I was aiming I put in the good shot category.
I fired a buddies muzzleloader at 120 yards and hit within 1" of where I was aiming. Good enough for me and animals I shoot

Unwhortunatly this is gonna get nasty :stirthepot2:

For the cry babies about to post whinny crap, remember, you have to be good to be lucky.

I had been at the range quite a bit as of late (read jobless) and was working the ML quite hard. I can honestly say that I could bang the 6" target all day at 100 with a fresh clean barrel.

Lucky, maybe, but there is something to be said for practice practice and more practice. :)

Let the whiners complain all they want, my freezer is full, and I don't take the shot unless I am confident I can anchor it. (hard lesson learned in the early days )

Does not seem to matter what the story is there is always someone who starts the ethics thing.

If you had stalked the deer and got close enough to club him, someone would complain it was not fair chase and lacked skill. Make a good shot at a normal range and they still are not happy.
Make an incredible shot and you're a horrible person.

The hunters on here are our own worse enemies.

Anyone wanna place some bets on page and post counts regarding how far this inethical skillless animal was taken? I mean what if one of osamas hinchmen had hijacked another plane, buzzed the nearby treetops while avoiding radar and spooked the lil
guy just as you squeezed off? Ever hear of meteorites? Not all are detected before they hit earth. I also hope you scoured the area for fire ants that may bite
at that critical moment, better of had on tons of skeeeter
repellant also. Hey how would you have known that your
sights didn't get bonked just enough to cause a jaw shot?....... Stir stir.... I'm saying 79 posts at 11 pages.

Bingo. There is no way I would ever tell a hunting story on this site. No way in hell.

Nice groceries! :D (as used in a response to my post of my little guy!)

I do prefer the smaller deer for eats. Not that I wouldn't shoot a bigger one if it showed up first, y'know....:D

Cheers
