How many on here shoot a 7x57?

I have two, and use them when I want to annoy the others in the deer camp. Mauser 95 with a heavy sporter barrel, Bishop stock, and a Mauser Model 2000 (push feed!).

.....In a classic old sporter like a Husky or a Brno it's a classic old cartridge....but in a modern rifle like a long action Ruger M77 or Model 70 the 7x57 is a waste of magazine space when you can have a 280:D

I have a mid-fifties manufacture Husqvarna featherweight. It's got a 20.5 inch barrel and a steel floorplate. Stumbled across it at a gunshop, 98 %
condition, belonged to a doctor who collected Huskys. 500 Bucks out the door, THAT'S A GOOD DEAL!!
Also used to have a Winchester featherweight, shot a few deer with it but it had a habit of walking shots up the paper once it warmed up, traded it away.

I have a "custom" mauser ( Oberndorf action) tapered barrel, custom bolt handle ,set trigger,Redfiel bases, and a 1x4 Leupold scope. It wil be my grandson,s some day!
2 Deer
! bear
A lot of coons, porqupines, and other farm varmints!!! It is my favorite and I shoot Barnes 160 X out of it. JITC

Just picked up a real nice Husqvarna 4100 Lightweight 7x57 in excellent condition off of the EE, snatched it up real quick. I've only had it for a couple days.
Beautiful rock solid little gun.

Why do some believe a 6.5x55 is so much better than a 7x57?
Asking for honest opinions as I don't understand.

Because some people like to split hairs. They all work, most of shooting is up to the shooter, anyways. I would not turn down either if the right rifle came along.:sniper::wave:

I have a ruger #1 on which I installed a 22"
7x57 take off barrel that came from Numrich. One thing about the Ruger #1 action you don't have to worry about how strong it is. It will handle any load up to 65kpsi. like any Wby loads.

So you are not restricted to loads designed for rifles made in the late 1800. I load only 140gr Nosler partition for deer. They are the most accurate in my rifle. I also use the fine RWS brass which is really well made and very strong.

I have a M98 Sporter in 7x57, it's a great shooter and is light on the shoulder.

It's a little on the heavy side, so I have used it a couple times to introduce new shooter friends to centerfire big game rifles.

It's a great confidence builder!

I have not had any time to hand load for it yet, but Noels hand load recipe has been showing very good results so far. Good enough for MOD(minute of deer) :sniper:

Minute of deer huh?

The paper never lies. ;) those are three different 154gr bullet groups too.:)

I guess I'll admit to owning one, it is okay I guess. This rifle has taken more game than any other gun i have had in my battery, not including the 22s of course. I'd post all it's killed but I am far too modest for that.:D

Face it Dave, you'll never get your 2..... what did they call that 2- two seventy(?) gun out again. Just get rid of it.

My 7x57 is one built by Rembo, it's a Rem 700 action with a mountain contour Bevan King stainless barrel. It sits in a factory Mountain rifle synthetic stock. It's a wonderful light weight rifle, and shoots Nosler 150gr Ballisitic Tips into less than an inch. So far I've taken two muledeer and one whitetail with one shoot each. It would be going out again this year, but the scope decided to give up and now the lenses are rattling around inside, so until I get that fixed the .270 is going to get the nod, otherwise, I'd be carrying it again this year.

Actually, I didn't barrel that rifle but I did own it. It's a King barrel but either Bevan or Corlane's built it...I think Bevan did it as it has his typically long shank..:)

have a very rare one, 7x57 in a Ruger No.1 AB, it has taken 2 nice Deer last season for us. would surely buy another AB if one comes along. would probably take an A, as well.

I have owned 7x57's in a Mauser 98, 2 Ruger 77's, a Ruger 1A, a Ruger 1AB, [many regrets for selling this one!] a Husqvarna, and my present 700 "Classic" is my second of that model. I have shot a fair bit of game with the 7x57, Muleys, Whitetails, Blacktails, A Bighorn, 8 or 9 moose, 4 Elk, at least a dozen Black Bear. I cannot remember ever shooting twice at any animal, with one exception, a moose that just stood there after the shot, and gave no indication of a hit, so, I poked him again. Autopsy revealed only the first shot was actually needed, since if I had been just a bit more patient, he would have fallen over. I regard the 7x57 very highly, and never have felt undergunned with one in my hands. The 160 Partition at just around 2750 is a penetrating load, and the 140 at over 2900 is plenty flat for most shooting. Regards, Eagleye.

Eagle

I have one in a 95 mauser with a long fluted Lilja barrel, custom stock and timney trigger. Scope on top is a Burris Signature 2-8. This rifle just plain shoots anything you care to feed it. My go to load is with Barnes TSx 140gr. Don't know for the life of me why Levi Garret wanted to get rid of it so badly, I know I never will. Shot my first 2 bucks with this rifle a couple years ago. 280 yards for the WT and about 75 feet for my mule buck. FS

I've had a couple. Seems I'll get one, then get rid of it for some reason, only to eventually get another. I had a Winchester model 70 feather weight that I quite liked, and then just recently sold an '08 Mauser I was going to use as the basis for a custom job. Still have one, a 7x57R in a Brno OU.
