I have owned 7x57's in a Mauser 98, 2 Ruger 77's, a Ruger 1A, a Ruger 1AB, [many regrets for selling this one!] a Husqvarna, and my present 700 "Classic" is my second of that model. I have shot a fair bit of game with the 7x57, Muleys, Whitetails, Blacktails, A Bighorn, 8 or 9 moose, 4 Elk, at least a dozen Black Bear. I cannot remember ever shooting twice at any animal, with one exception, a moose that just stood there after the shot, and gave no indication of a hit, so, I poked him again. Autopsy revealed only the first shot was actually needed, since if I had been just a bit more patient, he would have fallen over. I regard the 7x57 very highly, and never have felt undergunned with one in my hands. The 160 Partition at just around 2750 is a penetrating load, and the 140 at over 2900 is plenty flat for most shooting. Regards, Eagleye.
